Reformat 4 gig scsi drive - how long???

Ok I have a Atto Express PCI card with a 4 Gig scsi dive attached in my G4 450. I tried to reformat with DRIVE SET-UP - but it crashed (froze), then SCSI prope sees the drive but cant mount it, so using ATTO express software tried to reformat last night at 10:30pm it was still going at 7 this morning.... is that right?

but i did a low level, zero all - but still not 9 hours.

so any ideas on how i can get the drive up and running?
