I am planning to get a new tibook when the upgrade comes out (hopefully before Jan). Anyways I was wondering what the best newsgroup reader software for OSX is? I currently use forte agent for windows (which is a killer prog) but alas there is no mac version. =(.

i'm no expert on newsgroups or their related software, so my descriptions of these products may not be accurate, but there is a simple (free) cocoa news reader called "newsflash" that works quite well if you dont need to view pictures and things within the app. halime is another free cocoa news reader which allows you to view media within the application itself. halime seemed to be a bit more difficult to set up, but as i said, i'm no expert. newsflash was a quick and easy to view straight text posts. if you do a search on vt you should find a few others that are specifically tailored for getting pictures from newsgroups ( *cough* porn *cough*) i think diiva and baker were two of them, but i have not used them, and they are shareware.

I have heard good things about Thoth, but as I haven't had the opportunity to use newsgroups, I can't say for sure.

I am ordering my G4 PM this week. Currently on my windows machine I use X News, which is a fantastic news reader. It displays images in line, decodes, yenc binaries, and is able to sort threads by date unlike OE. (shame, Microsoft). Newswatcher is close, but so far I just haven't found a newsreader for OS X that doesn't have one or more major flaws. Can anybody help here?

You know, I have wondered that myself before? Outlook Express is good, but no X. Entourage is good. Just tried it.
Guys, don't for get to call me when you order your system ;)

Entourage is nice but unless I'm missing something it still can't sort whole threads in date order. Seems like such a relatively easy thing. The only reason I can think of that MS doesn't fix it is that they want the windows product to seem easier to use. So stupid.

You are right dave. Well, hopefully they will get a reader out before to long. Maybe Apple will put one into X. iNews. That would be cool. iNews.
I Like that!
