Hello, check out the thread on the front page about iMac updates if you haven't yet. I'll have to wait till fall no matter what to get one. :)

Yes, it does hold water. It just didn't mean the new ones would be announced TODAY. I still expect to see iMac updates either next week or by early March. (Which is only a week or week and a half away, for the record.)
I, too, am waiting with VISA in hand to call and order as soon as it's announced. I'd hit myself for ordering an iMac right now. Very bad time if you're interesting in getting the most for your $. ;) Plus I want a Rev. B. If I bought an iMac today, I'd feel bad even if new ones don't come out for another month.
iMac updates should be out soon...
One month from now the iMac will be "overdue" for an update based on the average time between announcements, so it makes it easy to believe it'll be real soon.

Thanks for lightening up the mood. I was quite frustrated today when i found no updtae on there site. I was ready wanting with cash in hand to get one. Now i'm stuck thinking, should i get one now or shall i wait for the update to arrive. I've decided to wait a maximum of 2 weeks for an update, if it doesn't come, i'll be forced to get the ones out now. I know if i do this, when the updates come i'll be heart broken but what can i do? COME ON APPLE, HURRY UP WITH THE UPDATE!

Need advice. I'm stuck between the 17-20". Which shall i go for? 20" would be better but £300 extra (about 550 dollars) for the 20" is a bit steep. What you think anyway.

sort of frustrating. ordered one on 2/13, supposed to ship same business day. 2/17 came along and they pushed back shipping until on or before 2/24. hasn't shipped yet and tomorrow is the new cutoff. i was hoping for an update but didn't get myself too excited about it as i figured it probably wouldn't happen. now i just wish they would get off it already and ship the iMac. even when they upped the wait on the online store it was only to 3-5 days.

Its approaching the end of the AVERAGE cycle period. Some updates come before and some come after and it AVERAGES out.
As I said on one of the other iMac come hither threads, it is in Apple's best interest to do all that they can this week (the week before the stock is traded at its new split-adjusted price) to hype the company and its product lines. What better way to do this that by updating its two most well known and highly publicized products, the iMac and the iPod. One down, one to go. The writing on the wall points to an iMac update as early as tomorrow and no later than next week. I am thinking it will be tomorrow and if they have a new GPU, I will likely be the first in line.

We are 17 days from the end of the cycle posted on the buyers guide. 17 days from now is when? I reckon it to March 12th, your count may differ because of when you start counting. So I'll expect something within a 4-week radius from March 12th. If I have the money (which I don't now) I'll probably just buy one.
It's good not having the money, I can't be temted to buy anything! :D

Apparently averages don't mean that much anymore. The PowerMacs are now 83 days passed their "average" update time. The PowerBooks were about 2 months or so behind when they were updated as well.

hmm, something odd i just noticed. apple went ahead and held the cost of the iMac i ordered on my credit card. its been held for almost two weeks now. i looked a few minutes ago and now its gone. usually when i order from apple if there is a delay they always put a hold on the card until they ship, no matter how long the wait.
probably means squat in terms of updates, i just found it weird. i really wish they'd either update the line or push mine out the door, 1-3 business days shipping was a while ago.

You have a point but it would be stupid of apple to release a huge flurry of products at once.....It would take the limelight away from certain products. My guesses first we get powermacs..next week and then a few weeks later iMac's if you really need an iMac..just buy one. you won't regret it. i have one and it is great!!

I was going to get a PM G5 to replace my 933 G4 then I started thinking about the iMac 20"er.
I figured I'd wait until they hit 2Ghz. Well then I heard they're going to be updated. Thought "Great! I'll bet they up them to 2Ghz." All excited. Even went to apply and pre-approved Apple credit.
Waited all day today...... bummer. I'm still holding out for an update revision before I buy.

I'll be the first to admit, I was 100% sure the imac was getting updated this morning. I didn't get a THING done at work today as I was constantly checking the apple store sight as well as macrumors....
And to think I have to do this on a daily basis?! I'll go crazy. Like some of you, I was holding out for a PB G5, but I think we have a while to go on that one. I would love to carry around the newly updated PGG4, but in terms or price I feel that the imac will give more bang for the buck. True I would portability, but it's not like I can carry it to work and play... :(
The delayed ship date gives me a glimmer of hope, but to be honest, there really could just be a hiccup in the supply chain somewhere.
One can hope, ehh? :o
Anyone else in the same boat?

yes I tend to agree, I think the iMac upgrade is a month off or more. I am currently a pC user with an old 933 MHZ PIII. I actually think im going to use my current monitor and keyboard and printer and mouse and just buy a maxed out mini on my wife's teacher discount for $825. I ll get 1.42 GHZ G4, 512 RAM, 80Gig and superdrive. That should give me the Mac experience and hold me for a year, then get a really powerful imac or a powermac G6.
anyways, im thinking mini for now to get going and then can always sell it and get a revision B. or C. iMac down the road.

Still 3-5 business days shipping for the iMacs's, eMacs-same business day shipping . I'm still at loss about why the eMac hasn't been updated along with the PMG5/iMac's - the first hasn't been revised since last April , so after the iMac is updated, we may see a eMac rev, or perhaps it'll be axed

Unless you have tons of music, heaps of images or are storing lots of video (and maybe a few other uses I'm forgetting), I think 80GB holds quite a bit.
Maybe MacBytes should do a poll of how much HD storage you have, how much is used, and how much is for pictures/audio/video. I think the results would be pretty interesting...

That pretty much sums up WHY 80GB's isn't very much room now. I have 300GB in my Powermac and I'm using well over a 100 right now. If I'm doing any video work that number will be over one half.

Exactly I import video from my camera which is use and make movies/dvds. My iPhoto Library is over 10 GB as is iTunes and you want to have backups of all your essential things such as movies and pictures incase of a bad update such as iPhoto 5, which has really ruined a lot of peoples libraries. I have a 160gb external harddrive and a 80 gb iMac. The iMac is completely maxed out and the external is getting close. =(

I almost gave in tonight and bought an imac 20" at the apple store here at biltmore in phoenix. I need this computer pretty bad for mass amounts of freelance work this weekend, but I could probably get by using a friends machine. I really do hope the bump comes out early next week though.
Needless to say, I have been monitoring this thread pretty closely. I am interested to see what people say about their shipping times tomorrow. I have a feeling that apple was going to release the imac bump this week, but held off for some reason.
On another note, I didn’t have a very pleasant experience at this particular apple store, which maybe part of the reason why I did not buy the imac. The store seemed messy and very cluttered. The actual display imacs I was looking at had finger prints all over looked very dirty. The staff was standing around talking to each other and were not very helpful to waiting customers. It was disappointing to say the least.
I hope they get their act together, it pains me to see a company I hold in such high regard lower their customer's purchasing experience. :(

I wouldn't be surprised if the iMacs are not updated for many months. All of Apples computers have had very long update times recently...the Powerbook, the eMac, which hasnt been updated in 318 days, Powermacs are also overdue for an update.
I think the same may be true of the iBook too - with Powerbooks receiving very minor processor updates there really isn't any where for the iBook to go without treading on the Powerbooks toes.

Come to think of it you're right. That's quite a large number of computer lines that need some attention.
It becoming more and more obvious that Apple is an iPod company that just happens to sell computer on the side. Kind of sad. :(

The reason updates are slowing down is not because Apple is an iPod company and it has forsaken the Mac. The G4 is an older technology that is reaching the end of its life in personal computers. There is only so far you can push any given technology and aside from dual core G4's, they have been pushed about as far as they will go. G5's on the other hand are a very new technology and IBM, like AMD and Intel, had many more problems than were expected when they transitioned to 90nm technology. Now that yields are increasing, we will likely see more and faster G5's as the year goes on.
Apple does not want to put a G5 in the mini just yet and the Powerbook isn't quite ready for a G5 and even moreso the iBook so these product lines are stuck with the G4. The Powermac has the fastest available G5's currently (so far as we know for sure) and it can't be updated until they are able to push past the 2.5GHz barrier without the use of liquid nitrogen or a wind farm. Who knows the status of the eMac? That leaves the iMac.
Why would Apple not update its most renown computer line when it has the technology to do so readily available. Sales of its professional lines are already in the toilet so why send the iMac with them?

Same for me (order 2/11, new ship 3/2).
I did not recieve an email update at all, but when i spoke with apple last night they asked if I would like my order put on "infinite wait." (A scary term) Which means that after 3 delays it is not cancelled. They said that the "3-delay-cancel" rule was government mandated. No idea how much of that is fact.

Give the mini the Fx5200 and you have a Great little gadget, Yank the darn Fx5200 out of the iMac and stick in a modern Gpu and again a great machine for consumers. Emac is dead apple was rumored to have made another production run as to not have the same fiasco as they did when the iMac G5 was intro'd so while waiting on Macmini's so they wouldnt be out of Emacs. My bet is Faster and cheaper iMacs in the next month or two,Emacs gone by summers end, they then can kick out that 9200 out of mini and use fx5200 in about 9 months :D . Even at its current state the iMac is more than I need to get things done but just the fact that something might be updated is cool to look for even if "I" can't get one now :(
The wait on some seems like a killer that have an order in with the iMacs. If it were some other type of retailer I might be nervous of delays and the wait, wait, not yet, almost there

These wait times seem odd to me. They keep pushing it back for people who ordered a machine in February. Do you actually think that Apple is postponing the shipment of these devices to send them a better product than they actually agreed to pay for. It just doesn't seem like something the company would do, espcially with the recent FireWire fiasco.

Note that the delivery time in european stores has now decreased to just 2 days. Which, incidently is the delivery time for the eMac also..
In Asian stores the norm seems to be 1-2 days and in the US 3-5 whilst canada seem to have the longest wait at the moment with 5-7 days (but then they are waiting 3-5 days for their eMacs also).
Does this not suggest a supply issue (the iBooks are also affected?)?
Looks that way to me, although i dearly want it to mean otherwise...! :(

when i called they didn't offer infinite waiting or whatever its called to me. in fact, they didn't even try to explain the delay, nor did they give me another delivery estimate. i think this is pretty weird behavior.
when i first ordered apple immediately put a hold charge on my credit card. at the beginning of this week it was taken off (i guess it expired or something) but as of today, its back on again. i really wish they would either update the line or ship the iMac already. or at least put the true waiting time in the store, at least 10 (and growing) to x business days.
