how do you refer to other macrumors folks when talking to friends/family?
for instance, do you say "this guy/gal from macrumors said that itunes 3...." etc etc... or do you say "this guy/gal (insert screen name here) said blah blah"... or is it "my friend robbie said blah blah"...
just curious. i think it's an interesting thing with the idea of online friends....
i used to say "this guy from macrumors". i still say it for most folks
for the others i know better. some i say "my friend such and such"... "oh, who's that?" "ahh, i met him/her on macrumors"....
kinda goofy. but alas, that's how it goes.
and ya'all?

I still cannot help but to refer to dukestreet as "duke" rather than his name...
BacktotheMac is Chuck...shorter is easier...
I call Moxiemike Moxie to differentiate between a buddy of mine...
Mischief I refer to as Cal...
jello....rower...teabgs...jef...cleo...etc...etc...

Well, some of the guys and girls here, I refer to as friends. Sometimes I'll say names and the wife pretty much knows about everybody anyway.
I've started using real names outside of MR, but its tough some times.

Im shocked you actually talk about people here to other people.
If put in a different context, I would slap someone if they said "hey, this guy from the ______.com forum online said that..."

Well, I've mentioned you to my wife, and she even went in and replied to your short film thread after she say the UNC movie.
What's the hangup - just because you 'met' all of us in a different context doesn't make it all that crazy. Times are a changin' - realize that its only going to be more common that you'll get involved with something/one on line.
Sheesh!

As a closet geek, I try my best not to use names (or specifically mention the boards) as it might tip my hand as to just how much free time I waste...er...spend here!

yeah, i told my bro about your films and showed him some
and if one has computer savvy friends, then it's common to be talking about computer stuff with them.... "guy from macrumors said that fcp 3 has such and such"..
or even just "i heard that..." and then "where'd you find that out?" "oh, some guy from macrumors"
i have yet to find a lover on here though...... though i'm guessing some will dispute that.

lets not see you sabotage your own thread here jello.....
and someone once said there should be a Dating Forum
SMG looking for SFG......
that would be pretty damn funny, since there are only a handful of females on the site. I think the SMG looking for SMG might do better.....
But being married, I'd only be able to watch and laugh...:D

I can speak for myself and someone else around here who's had much better luck than I...there is luck to be found on the net... ;)

How would I refer to you guys?
"Geeks" - but in a good way...
Well - you don't see me going anywhere else, do you? ;)
(Anyway - my wife doesn't understand. She calls me a "geek" for coming to this site so frequently. So I guess that's what I am too...)

I convinced my wife to go to geekfest this year and she actually met some of the members and realized that they were actually normal people and a lot of fun. So now she's a member.......
So an a good question be - Will our children grow up wary of the internet and meeting people online?
I don't think so. I think its going to be a huge part of your social life - what we have here is only a start.

yeah...we're normal guys....well...almost... ;)
I think by the time any children we have are dating & such...this internet thing won't be so much of a big deal. Honestly, it's not that big of a deal to me, as I've been meeting people & dating from the internet for close to 6 years now. I've had 2 long term relationships (1 major) and made a few really close friends from all of this. I'm looking forward to seeing what the "next" thing is gonna be. ;)

"...I am not an ANIMAL..."
"...I am a Mac Enthusiast."

Me too Beej... It's better that way, because I avoid a lot of questions about you guys and what I read here... But when I mention macrumors.com ( when I'm explaining something about Macs) people get excited with the idea of a bunch of Mac Fans, helping and sharing information with eachother!
