We will all have to wait a year for it, but it should be worth the wait.
IBM looks like its going for the jugular on ol' Intel/M$--Mac and Linux OS's running on their new chips. Cool.
The blurb about the G5 by Motorola was also encouraging.
This is all good news for me--someone who is not planning an upgrade for a year. I'm sure it is an agonizing wait for people buying Mac towers now, knowing the foundations of the technology are going to change dramatically in the next 12 months or so.
I wonder how this stuff slipped past Apple Legal. I mean, unveiling the next chip when you can't sell the current towers has got to sting a bit. Doesn't help when benchmarks put the 1.25 ghz in a dead heat with the old 1 ghz machine in many respects.
The best news is that Apple is no longer technologically hamstrung by Moto for their top-end hardware. IBM is just the kick-in-the-pants Moto needs to get crackin' on faster chips.
