Not quite true: We just actually annunciate the vowels in such words. Rather than the americanized "Abaught" we say "Abowt" which is more correct. The same is true of words like "Sorry" which Americans pronounce "Saurey".

It's just a Queen's English versus Webster's English thing.;)

i used to talk to a friend from michigan on the phone n she had a weird accent (kinda) in my oppinion, lol...even tho ive gone to north dakota many times n they dont sound like they have an accent compared to ours lol

My wife is canadian... pardon, canadienne! Means french canadian from Eastern Ontario, close to Ottawa. I am "just" german, even living in Germany, so I guess I don't count! ;) :D

P.S.: I met canadians saying abOOt, so it's not a myth, it's real. But I don't think that you can say there is THE canadian pronounciation. People from West-Canada talk quite a little bit different to folks from the middle or the East of the country. Aye??? :D ;)

ive never talked to a canadian who said abOOt n looks like most of the ppl on MR so far are from western canada, i have heard ppl saying eh n stuff like that n saying "oh ya, we eat seal for breakfast" n stuff like that whenever americans ask stupid questions :S lol...

:D That's true... my "new" family told me so many funny stories about incidents with US citizens... :D

Canadians really "love" the people from the US! ;)

One of my favourite stories is still the one with a couple from the US that was visiting Canada by car and got stopped on the Queensway by a cop because they were speeding. The guy said then that he already wondered why the other cars were driving so slow, but that he was not going more than 100mph like written on the signs... The cop had to teach him, that they use the metric system in Canada since a while now and that the signs mean 100kph!! :D Ooops!

Or when my family was camping in the US a couple from Texas (who were neighbours at the camping-site) honestly asked if they are also always eating fish and if their houses are made of ice.... :D

Or the couple that wanted to pay with US$ in Canada. They were all puzzled and couldn't understand that a state of the US has it's own currency, until someone told them that Canada is not part of the USA... that chance they missed in the war of 1775-1776! ;) :D

All real stories... and funny like hell! :D Thank God that not all US citizens are that uneducated and ignorant. :)

The Prime Minister is, like most Canadians of a Socialist mindset.... however he is not of the Socialist party. The Socialist Party is not very popular at all. Canada is Socialist in that the government is aimed more at Populist Programs than in a purely Capital driven society.

We have high taxes and it's annoying. I wish we had capital gains taxes like the states. I used to live in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, but I'm in Ottawa, Ontario now.

Canada may be smaller (population wise) than the US, but we Canadians are definitely not the "backward cousins" of Americans.

Don't complain too much, you're likely to see that money again in reduced health-care costs and a myriad of other social programs. I've been living in the 'States for ten years now and I can tell you first hand that almost exactly NOTHING of those taxes is ever seen again.

Is anyone else pissed off about the lack of:

- Canadian Holidays hosted by Apple for iCal
- Hockey as a sport for iCal
- Sherlock only doing US movies, tv listings, etc...

Or the fact that the dual 1.25 starts at $5200 (to americans, sure that's only canuck bucks but hey, I don't get paid in yankee bucks. $5200 is $5200 is too much for a computer)
