This is kinda urgent as this is the only time I really have to use a computer here on my trip to Japan...I was going to get a powershot s40 and they work in australia right?

I'm not sure on still cameras. I know for sure that each country uses different stuff for video cameras. Just to be safe, I wouldn't buy it unless it says on the packaging that it is compatible in Australia. Sometimes they use slightly different batteries and power supplies, and if you plugged it in back in Australia, it may damage the camera. If it were me, just to be safe, I would buy it when you get back to Australia.

You could try e-mailing one of the guys from the websites. The guys from dcresource.com, Jeff Keller, replied to my e-mail question very promptly. Since he's an insider, he might be able to answer your question.
