Cleaning LCD screens

Over time my LCD screen has gotten quite dirty, and I try to clean it with my shirts, but it doesn't help much.. SO... what do you guys do to keep em clean?

I think you are supposed to use a soft damp cloth (not wet). However, I would wait until someone gives you a definate answer before doing so.

I'd also be interested to know, my screens are becoming a little dirty now, and like irmongoose I have used the sleve of my shirt but it doesn't do alot.
Does anyone know for sure the best way to clean them?

yeah, the apple store sells a few different lcd cleaners, one of them comes with a cloth, I think they are around $15, not bad i guess.

Hmm.. I was kinda hoping there were some free methods of doing it.. kinda stupid that you have to pay for a kit to clean em... I guess I'll try with a damp cloth, then...

anyone know of a better way?

I clean the LCD of my Ti with a slightly wet piece of soft tablenapkin... I even use it to clean the whole powerbook! It works great for me!

the napkin works well overall, but I can't get rid of some stains... I'll try the cloth tomorrow...

I recommend eyeglass cleaner sprayed on a soft cloth - cotton is a good candidate, a clean tee-shirt, particularly one that is old and soft :D . I would recommend against using napkins for the same reason they are a bad idea for glasses - they are a wood product and could potentially scratch the screen.

I use Windex with a soft cotton cloth and I haven't had any problems. I'm not sure if that's a generally accepted way of cleaning LCDs, but Dell says window cleaner is safe to use on their LCDs, so I doubt Apple is any different. I would recommend not buying window cleaner that has those thick, syrupy "stays where you spray it" chemicals in it - just get the crappy generic watered down stuff.

For my Powerbook, I use Windex and a Scotch Brite Polyester cloth;)

I use a damp paper towel with a small amount of dishwashing liquid and then follow up with a dry paper towel. This works pretty nice and gets rid of those oily fijnger prints. A softer cloth may be a better option, I never thought of the paper towel scratching the screen until I read this thread.

i am in the same boat.... i am staring at a filthy screen myself.

i hear Klear Screen is the best, but this is just from online sources. has anyone here used it?

I dont touch my screen and it still gets dirty from the keyboard. The Tibook has the same problem as the old pismo series. The keyboard puts little marks all over the screen. Is there any way to solve this, i.e. soft piece of cloth on the keyboard when the tibook is closed or some other suggestions? I cant be spending 15 bucks a bottle for iClean (or iKlear Screen or whatever thats called...) when there is a better solution out there.

Put a piece of paper in between before you close it... That's what all the people do I know (with a TiBook).

I just use "Fensterreiniger" (window-cleaner) in a spray-bottle and a soft rag to clean my PowerBook LCD. Works perfectly and you also can use it for cleaning the rest of the machine, since it is not aggressive to plastic. Just be careful that you don't put too much so that it goes into some connectors or other parts with electricity... otherwise the "cleaning LCD" problem is solved forever. ;)

Isn't the one thing you must not use is products that use Alcohol to clean - no jokes about using beer to clean your lcd. I could be imagining that though.
