Don't think of it as an hour late, think of it as celebrating in a different time zone.

Up in BC it's all about quality... Cuz it's all indoor Kush and damnear everyone grows so only a few people actually buy the stuff.... consequently Quality of high was key.

I come down here to SC Ca. and it's about how much you can smoke, not how clean the high is or how well it lets you function.

I could only take so many years of partying with binge smokers.

I've now been clean exactly a year. I plan on staying this way. I can still appreciate the smell of good fresh stash and tell you from the scent, colour, diameter of Cola, sparkliness and texture as much as any somallier can tell you about a given wine from the scent, colour and "legs".

I just have too much to do these days to be lit all the time. For those of you who have no responsibilities: Have fun today and stay safe. I watched a good friend of mine cough himself unconscious on 420 a couple of years ago and have watched the same friend smoke enough to screw up his lungs pretty bad. Moderation in all things... Even Moderation... ;)

Mischief, I hear you, the stuff around here is so poor it's all about chiefing quantity... my lungs can't take it, and it's too much effort, every day i get closer to quitting, i can feel it. but that won't happen for another year or three! so party on, wayne... and party on garth

(that's the second wayne's world reference i've made in the past day, how sad is that)

Mmmmm...brownies. :p

Yeah. I feel that...

Since my son was born last year I've decided that getting serious involves finding a recession-proof career I can feel good about for the 30 years it'll take for the kid to get stable on his own. After some looking around it became clear that only the emergency-response field held to those parameters as well as paying enough to support a family i this outrageously expensive place.

This meant cutting my hair shorter than shoulder length for the first time in ten years; quitting the Ganja after a lifetime of emmersion and ten years of active smoking; and finally shaving off my beard after four years. I've gone back to school, I'm close to finishing my EMT cert and I feel better about myself than I ever have.

For any of you that are worried about getting married and having kids: There is no better motivator in the world than being truly responsible for other lives. This can be seen in my choice of career changes too... I really like having a purpose...

Can anyone explain it to those of us accross the pond?

Depending on your source, it got started many ways, but the most widely spread is this: On April 19 1943, at 4:20, Albert Hofman took the first intentional dose of LSD, thereby kicking off the hallucinogenic revolution (marijuana is a hallucinogen). Some anti-drug zealots claim stoners do it to honor hitler, who's birthday is 4/20, but i'm afraid that's just not true. i've yet to meet a stoner neonazi or vice-versa.

Snagged from a webpage elsewhere... thought I'd
share since I've seen much talk/debate over the
expression and it's possible roots. Fun story
about the Waldos...

- - - - - -

420 is used for marijuana, because 4:20 is international smoking time.

It is termed "international" but I only think it is well-known in the United States. At 4:20 p.m., (or a.m.) most stoners in the US make it a point to smoke. Many radio stations in the US will remind people that it is 4:20 and theyll say something like "burn em if ya got em". Also, April 20 (4/20) is International Smoking Day, when most stoners make it a point to smoke all day long (although for some people, 4/20 is every day)

According to Steven Hager, editor of High Times, the term 420 originated at San Rafael High School, in 1971, among a group of about a dozen pot-smokers who called themselves the Waldos, who are now pushing 50. The term was shorthand for the time of day the group would meet, at the campus statue of Louis Pasteur, to smoke pot. Intent on developing their own discreet language, they made 420 code for a time to get high, and its use spread among members of an entire generation. And it has spread all over the country to the present day.

A quote from one of the Waldos in the High Times article states, "We did discover we could talk about getting high in front of our parents without them knowing by using the phrase 420."

I have not smoked (anything) and most likely won't in my lifetime (I guess not in my death either, but who knows? ;) ).

I, however, don't have a problem with anyone else doing so... As long as it doesn't affect others that don't want to be affected.

weird tho, at my school, i guess there was a rumor going around that there was going to be a shooting today (4/20). we had about 10 cops around the campus all day, nothing ever happened though.

a lot of the kids that wanted to go blaze just told our principal that they felt uncomfortable being at school with the shooting rumors going around, so he let them leave. haha

happy (insert something of your choosing here) to those who don't.

mischief, i know what you mean as well, but i figured out that aging it for a month or 6 weeks improves it much. im right behind ya, i've cut down quite a bit, for my own good of course. though i'll always have a weak spot for a good brownie with vanilla ice cream on top. *drool*

and now... since weed is a gateway drug, ill be using it as a gateway to the pantry.

i always thought 420 was the police code as well ... lots of different origin stories out there though --

i didn't smoke up today, i find to really enjoy it i have to be drunk already or else i get really depressed, and anxious. i don't do it a lot though, i got into some harder stuff for a while ... now i just stick to beer/scotch

meh ... happy 4.20 to those that are still in the day, guess that only really leaves the coast now.

Very comforting to hear :)
I also cut my hair the shortest ever and cut down heavily on my smoking the past year. But I still don't have anything besides my own bellybutton to motivate me and it seem to be not really enough for me.
I sometimes feel that with the amount of serious work I produce every day I might as well get high all the time... on my lovely, cheap, mild and tasty pot from Djursland (the Bordeaux of Danish weed) - but I know it wouldn't improve anything. So I save it for the weekend. And it's friday tomorrow ;)

There's a time and a place...I was entering my school through the gymnasium during professional day (school break for students) and I could smell pot emanating from the group of teachers in the gym. I think differently of teachers that day. They are just potheads! Hehe. Well, Wes, I totally understand why some students don't get expelled, but in my school, getting high on pot was really not a big issue. It was really rare. Just as rare as lookin in the rear-view mirror as I drive past you baby! Take care.
