I have seen a couple people that have purchased the educational version on this thread that didn't receive their copy today considering purchasing the regular retail version and than swapping it out for the education version. DO NOT TRY THIS - YOU WILL BE VERY DISAPPOINTED.

The educational version of Apple software comes with an entirely different SKU number and the retail stores WILL NOT take it back. The retail stores are NOT ALLOWED to do any transacations with educational software. Although they CAN sell hardware at an educational price, they are unable to provide educational hardware (for whatever reason).

Mine shipped about an hour ago apparently. And no tracking number, DHL Worlwide to Canada.

So let me get this straight. Those of us that paid thousands of dollars for new computer equipment and $12 to pay to ship something that probably only costs a couple of dollars have to wait longer than those who only spent $129? I'm not saying I want mine first, but I'm just curious why Apple would delay all the up-to-date copies - they're smaller packages and we just dropped a wad of cash!
EXACTLY! I ordered my powerbook on the 16th, got it, and very quickly pre-ordered tiger through up-to-date. I was pretty excited to know I was getting it the 29th! Boy was I wrong! Now I have to wait another week to get it, when someone could have only payed 80 or 140 dollars just to get it when it said they would. I never saw anywhere on the website that the up-to-date order would ship out on the 29th? I just saw all over, order before the 26th and your guaranteed to get it the 29th. Oh well, at least my order status has changed! It took a week or two though lol.

BTW, is anyone else having some problems with Quicktime 7? Mines very choppy even when I download the trailers in H.264. I dont get what the problem is?

Oh well, Hope all you guys out there are having fun w/ Tiger

I almost tried this, but figured it wouldn't work. Kinda knew it wouldn't work for that reason, but also since someone else would have tried it already.

About 60 hours left until expected delivery time on Monday.

Tick, tock, tick tock....

My roommate wanted to give Tiger a spin on his iBook so he borrowed my CD (yes illegally, but for the record he was going to buy it) and installed it over Panther. After the install was done, he tried to access the internet and BAM it was dead. Not just dead, but gone, no ping, no traceroute, etc. I am starting to think Apple disables the internet on computers where one copy has been installed on the same network. Is this possible?

:D Lucky you... by the way did you go for Archive&Install or Clean Install ??
There is no such thing as a Mac OS X clean install. The closest approximation to one is called an erase and install.

I just downloaded the NASA H.264 clip and played it in 1280x720 on my PB G4 17 and it looks great. Tiger installed with QT Pro 7. So maybe when you get Tiger installed you won't have the problem.

I called 1-800-MY-APPLE around 10pm EST last night, and was told FedEx was "working overtime" and that they were "still out delivering." I was then told to call if I didn't get the package by tonight (Saturday). The package is now at my regional distribution center (Syracuse), so I know I'll get it by Monday, but this sucks!

I had no other option as I got the student price. ...Then again, maybe I don't have the right to complain then, do I!? :D

Tiger installed with QT Pro 7

I thought Tiger only comes with regular QT7, as Apple wants another $30.

That is the way that it reads on their web site. I cannot find the link now, though.

Hey your in Syracuse too? Also a student here in Syracuse mine's on the mysterious fedex ramp but I don't think I'll get it until Monday either b/c of the stupid can't pickup mail after 7pm policy at the dorms.

BTW, if you haven't yet called Apple I suggest you do that (again today), I just got off the phone with them and they offered me a free copy of iLife or iWork to makeup for the late shipment. :D :D :D (How can you not love Apple handing out ~$60 packages for free to compensate for a couple days late shipment of a ~$70 OS)

I ordered mine on the 26th and it arrived yesterday afternoon. I was kind of surprised, as I thought it would been at least the standard 8 days shipping time frame. Whatever, it's installed, it pretty neat... I just need more widgets... those things are addicting.

Yeah just got off the phone with apple... the second time I called them regarding this. The first time the rep told me they were not doing it but now I called again and they gave me a copy of iLife seeing as I allready have iWork (although my PB is brand new I got it in late feb so I allready have the iLife 05 suite) so this just means I need to find someone to sell my copy to.

But my impatience led me to buy a copy of Tiger yesterday at the regular price and I do have my student priced comming on monday. Now the trick will be to return the copy I bought on friday and keep the other one so I only pay for one instead of two unless someone wants to buy my copy on half.com.

I'm a little bummed at Amazon's slow shipping. I ordered the Family Pack the on the 12th and it still hasn't shipped. :(

You'd think they would have been able to turn the orders around already, unless a ton of people pre-ordered before the ship date was announced.

You'll probably want to return the new box you get, that is sealed, as if it was the copy, from the Apple store. They are only going to want to accept it, if it is sealed, so take back the box that arrives as if it is the one you bought in the store.

I ordered Tiger with the Ed discount online. The UPC is 718908376928 and the barcode label just says MAC OS X v10.4 Retail. Part # M9639Z/A

I don't see anything on here identifying it as "Education"

Thanks . . . I ordered iWork '05 and iLife '05 and one was labeled "Education" (iWork) and the other wasn't. However, I've no idea whether the UPC barcode would reveal a difference between it and the non-education version.

I believe that the only difference, with the OS, is on pricing. If what I purchased from the Apple Store online was somehow a different version, an education version, it would be labeled as such and would have to have a different UPC.

The Apple part #, M9639Z/A is the same as the number listed on Amazon, CompUSA and MacMall. Those sites did not list a UPC.

The reason I suggested that was I know Apple.com is calling this item by the same number. I didn't realize the UPC on the bottom was different, if it is. Thanks for bringing the possible difference to my attention.

Well I am going to check on Monday when the edu version comes to my door and if all is kosher then I'll return the new one I recive now if not then what I'll have to do is carefull switch out the bar code labels so I'll need some glue and a hair dryer but what ever if worse comes to worse I'll see one copy on half.com and keep the other one for myself.

Now regarding getting a copy if iLife/iWork etc. what you have to do is call up the apple customer support with your web order number and tell them you would like to make a complaint because it was not delivered as promised and you know that other people have been getting compensated this way. If the rep on the phone can't help you then ask to speak to a supervisor and complain to them (if you feel that it's worth your time). And if what Rod Rod said si true about the bar code then it should all be good and I'll be in the clear... lets just wait and see.

I was offered this deal too. But, since I already have both, they offered me a $30 credit on my next Apple store purchase. Just another option.

Just got my Up-to-date today... after I spent $2500, they couldnt seem to ship it out the same time as everybody else... [/rant]

I called last night and was told that the garunteed delivery was only for full retail deliveries, so if you ordered that, I'd call back. Politely explain that you purchased it through the AppleStore because they guarunteed it by last friday. Don't let them tell you otherwise! Also inform them that you have talked to other people whom have been offered free software by Apple as compensation for the mix-up. If they can't help you, just ask to speak to a supervisor.

But based on what everyone else is saying, you should get something.

Order a refurb. 1.8 DP on April 7th. Was told that it'd be shipped next day-my name on it(right). April 11 nothing from Apple, other than the extended warranty I didn't order was on the way. l Called the 12th to cancel,bc of the way it was being handled. Talked into keeping the order, "it qualifies for the 10.4 update and will be treated as a NEW item, thats why you should buy from us". OK, if I don't get an email and tracking no. tonite, I'm cancelling. Got an email. All is good. Beautiful machine. My 3rd Apple desktop since '90 and 8th product(monitors-laptops).
Sent in up-to-date + a check weeks ago and got this today. YOUR PRODUCT DOES NOT QUALIFY. No check either.
Called and they can't figure if its the shipping date or the order date or that its a refurbed item that's causing the reject.
Its not worth the time to cause a stir, but for Apple salesmen to stup to this, man what are those people making on sales! http://forums.macrumors.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=1437606#

Nope, didn't send in writing, just over the phone. At first the salesperson,of today #4, said that it would qualify. Then she, like I, went to the web site for the upgade and got the same massage I got when I first applied, "item isn't in our database".
I asked "is my computer in the database"?. No she said. I said not in any base. She said " I can't answer that". "Why not" was my reply. A blank. I may have a very special unit here-maybe CIA had this before.
That is the same response I got weeks ago from the third Apple personal. Weeks ago I called to see what was going on with the serial number, and no one could figure it out. I was assured that the computer was in the program, after their reviewing of the receipt, and just send the papers and money not to go through the web site. So I did-not good reply from them. They are not sure about the check, neither am I, it may be lost or get cashed weeks from now........
I know now that the folks at Apple are no better at handling sales and after sales service than other places around here. I've never had problems with Apple Store before, now I'm thinking they're employees are more into sells--- than happy customers. I mean - you can't tell me if my computer is in the database! More like their time is more spent on other things -sells-sells-sells- than tell me why I didn't qualify.
