yeah i mean those machines in general.... mac or pc.
emachine for pc and emac of mac... i guess.
both are directed to the same people.... who want a striped down puter for internent and word proces. etc.
anyways... your opinion on the pc version firt and foremost and your opinion on the mac version compared to its pc counter part.

eMachines?
Nah.
All PC makers still include floppies, serial and parallel ports.
Abit currently has a MB that is 'legacy free' it includes USB 2.0 and Firewire ports instead of serial and parallel.
Still has a floppy port though.:(
Yeah, I was wondering what the difference was between eMachines and legacy free PCs. Thanks for the clarification.
Are there any true legacy free PCs then?

Nope.
That just proves that Apple's way ahead of the whole PC industry.:p
I hope there will be in at least a year though. I'm really sick of floppies and parallel ports.
Here's (http://www.motherboards.com/catalog/product_info.php?category_id=4&index_id=7&products_id=11213&) a link to that Abit MB I was talking about.

Lecacy ports are the old serial, parallel and floppy ports you still see on PCs.
They work off of an outdated data-transfer system tht USB and Firewire have replaced, but PC makers still haven't gotton it yet.

Legacy free is really what Apple brought to the computing world in the form of the iMac.
No floppies, no serial ports, ect. No old "legacy" technology.

i could see bondi imac not having serial ports, but i would have liked to have seen a model with floppy, which is still good for word processing
serial ports and parallel ports on PCs are pretty much now dead, but i like the floppy for PC which is more of an office word document machine in the working world...some businesses do just that...word, excel (also small files mostly), email, and internet
Floppies are still alive and well at my school..
But they are slowly transitioning to Zips as files become too large.
I can see where floppies may be useful for small Word files, but you could always email the files to yourself.. ;) :p

Personally, I'd like to see floppies get replaced by flash cards.
Those little things are great, it's just the readers that are cheap and flimsy.
I've heard horror stories about Zip drives though.:(
Yeah, Zips are affected by major issues sometimes.. :(
But that's only if you don't know how to use them.. ;) :D

zip...the original click of death syndrome
in three years as a techie who keeps in contact with other techies, i am still yet to come across an iomega zip with that problem
apparently, it was an object of a class action lawsuit and zip owners got something in the mail or e-mail about it...i didn't:p

if the zip unit fails, it will kill data on the zip disk...and if a zip disk that has been ruined is used on another working zip unit, it may damage that good unit, too
so if unit has a "click" which means its broken and wipes out zip disk, then toss unit and the zip disk, too
but i have never heard of that happening anywhere except on the net from horror stories...but first hand, i have not seen this happen

It get's it's name from a repetative "click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click" as the drive tries to read the disk. When U encounter a disk like this U must manually eject it as rapidly as possible because it's a bizarre type of failure that can "infect" the drive itself.
This term also covers disk failures where, mid-read the disk "clunks" dramatically and fails to read.

i wonder if the click messes up the read heads
and then the messed up read heads messes up disks
and then so on and so forth
i still have not seen or heard that click in real life...i only have read about it...some hundreds of thousands of ruined disks and or units...but that is among millions of disks and units sold so i don't know what the odds are
kind of like traveling in airplanes...one always hears about the crashes but fails to realize that they are basically rare occurences
if i find a unit or disk that clicks, i will show you
since it's as rare as the alien who makes the crop circles;)

I had a great 12:30 poop today. The consistency was awesome. The smell, not too bad. Easy cleanup. Not too watery. Just watery enough
All in all, a 9.5 on the poop-o-scale

i remember when i got my rev.c imac, emachines came out with something called the eOne. imagine an imac squeezed into a square mold; horrible! if memory serves, they were sued by apple for their use of a bondi blue version of it.

the eOne was actually the best of the emachines product at that time...the rest of the emachines, which were towers had awful problems with their power supplies...which they later fixed...and they were really ugly towers compared to the eOne which was not bad
...of course, the eOne was not as good as imac, but since emachines stole the design, the integrity of the shape and color of the eOne was quite nice...but eOne did not add anything to the design of the imac
i wish the eOne was still out there and it is too bad they got sued...i am not one for the beige box pcs that are out there...and there are still too many of those dull computers floating around
i kind of wish all pcs looked just like macs...hey, hex pee copies os x, right???:p
