1GHz 17/19inch iMacs

According to the information, it seems that the 15 inch LCD wide screen iMac was reformed disappears from a product line within this year. Furthermore, the 17/19 inch LCD wide screen iMac which carried 1Ghz PowerPC G4 is a thing that an announcement and shipment are planned by Macworld SF 2003 as a higher rank model.

Interesting. Moving up both the screen and processor, that's going to be a nice machine - I just hope the prices don't go up all that much.

I am glad I didn't buy a 15" iMac when they were new, or at all!!:D There will be a lot of pissed of people!!! But that technology for ya!!!

I hope Apple ups the bus speed on these new computers as they are probably the only computer vendor still using 100mhz bus speeds.

I just wish they had srive expansion. I do video work and I need more space. I love these things, but they aren't meant for what I do. Now, if Apple would just certify a FW drive for FCP, I could get one and be set.

I don't want the foot print changed on the iMac, of course, so I guess I just want the FW drive. The screen real estate is getting great though.

You can rest assurred that Apple uses a slow bus on low-end machines only because the high-end doesn't have much faster. They do it to differentiate the products, and until the G4 PMac is safely above a 133mhz bus the iMac will remain at 100mhz.

I would love to replace the big honking 19" glass tube monitor on my desk with an LCD that could move like the iMac can.

with minor improvements (proccessor, ram, bus)

(current middle model with same improvements) and 17"

yea this thing is going to be nice...however
it would be really nice if they made the
processor on a daughter card so we could
upgrade it eventually...and an upgradable
graphics card would be cool too.

I know it's not "offcial", but grab a FW enclosure w/the Oxford 911 chipset and a 7200RPM IDE drive and you should be set.

Really? Wow, I didn't know that. Looks like I'll be spending some money this weekend!

To get back on topic, I think these 19" iMacs are going to be awesome. Hopefully Apple will be smart enough to keep the price down. I feel sorry for those people who jumped on the 15" bandwagon.

It would be nice to hear something along the lines of new monitors coming out at a decent price, for those of us that have power macs. Though, I couldn't possibly justify spending $999 on a monitor when I could get a new imac for $1200 and I passed on getting a new lcd with the rebate when I got my power mac just because I'm waiting for the new monitors from Apple. Where's the new 17" widescreen lcds for $699?? (dreaming)

If they don't hurry I'll get a Lacie CRT. The price point on LCD's is killing me. I want it, but don't feel right about it when you can get such other cool gear for nearly the same amount of money.

Ummm, I bought the 15-inch iMac back in January when it came out, and both my girlfriend and my brother bought one apiece about 2-3 months ago. We all shared one thing: we NEEDED a computer at that point...so there is nothing to feel sorry about for us. We love our iMacs! Besides, considering that I bought my computer 9 months ago, and it only recently became the second level option (I have the 800 MHz/SuperDrive), I think that's a pretty good purchase.

I used to do all my editing on a Pismo with a few FW drives. One 911, an ADS Pyro, and a Maxtor. All were 5400 rpm drives, 60-80GB. No real problems to speak of. Render times may have been slowed a bit, but with a 400mhz G3 I can't imagine HD speed was much of an issue. Importing, editing, exporting, going to tape...it all worked. You should not have any trouble. Just don't daisy chain them too much, that is usually the cause of problems with FW devices.

Though now that I'm a proud owner of a DP867 I will NEVER go back to a laptop. I love having 4 drives in there. Lots of storage, fast transfer of files and no cables and boxes cluttering up the desk. But if an iMac is what you have FW will have to do.

That is a HEALTHY way to look at things!

Fact is anyone who buys ANY computer will have to look at new machines 3 to 6 to 9 months (depending on how the chips fall) later that have something 'better' about them. Either cheaper or faster or better or all 3 (usually all 3).

If you don't finally say I've waited LONG ENOUGH and buy one you'll be stuck with a PowerMac 8500 for the rest of your life. ;)

If they can put out a 19" LCD with an iMac attached for $1999, then maybe a 19" LCD by itself could cost around $999???

Then a dual-processor system with 19" display ought to be rather nice.

Otherwise, I'll settle for a gigahertz iMac.

I bought the original high-end iMac with the superdrive, when the 17" came out I indeed did wish I had waited, but I could care less about a 19" one, they are going to have to increase the base size of the iMac for that to even look right, and like Daytone63 I needed my a mac at the time as well, and it was a solid purchase. If anyone is looking into a desktop, those 15" prices are going to drop when/if the changes are made and it would be a good deal.

So you were waiting for apple to "certify" a firewire drive before you thought it would work? Hey, it's certified... now it works!

I've been using external firewire drives for 3 years. The new chipset is great, but by no means neccessary. VST used to work just fine. Apple also tells you not to digitize to the drive running the software, and then advertises FCP on a laptop. So where exactly would I be digitizing to then? Hmmm?
