i have a western digital external hard drive.

i just reformatted my G5. (for good reasons)

before i reformatted it, i could plug in this firewire external hard drive and it would show up as an outside storage device. just like my digital camera.
i was able to transfer files in and out of it with ease.

now that i reformatted it, whenever i plug the hard drive in, it doesn't recognise it at all. the computer doesn't even take action. ignores it! the digital camera works fine though.

one thing i did do though: i did look for drivers, and found that it was made for windows, and there were no mac drivers.

why would it work then and not now? how can i get it to recognise it?
thanks! !

What version OS X are you using?

Have you installed any updates to OSX.

If you are using OS X 10.3.5 then remember that 10.3.5 does suffer with a bug regarding firewire devices. So update OS X to 10.3.9.

How did you format the drive originally?

Can you mount the drive from the disk utility.

Rest your computer with the drive atached. Powercycle the drive at the same time and see what happens.

If your running Tiger- Take a look at this MacRumors Thread. (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=124359) It refrences this Tiger Bug. (http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?128@706.ouDqawnKRa9.1@.68ad8326)

Also in the future, regardless of how this thread helps you, it is nice to know the computer specs, the device specs, and why the products FAQ hasn't helped you.

For instance, needing to reformat a G5 could because there was something buggy with the system, or because you just inherited it.

i've installed all the updates, and what does power cycle mean?

Power Cycle = Turn off and back on. (Fewer words and it sounds so cool when brodcast by JPL or NASA)

All I can offer is, did you contact WD support?
