What do you think? On the official page, they say it'll be out Spring 2006 at earliest, making me wonder if it might not show up on current generation consoles... :o

I know, I've looked at them. I'm just thinking they might change their minds if the game is released after all three of the new consoles are released.

According to the mini-catalogue that comes with WoW, it's for the next-gen consoles. Poor.

Then it's official, they've just forgotten to update their FAQ..?
I find this very cool, since I don't have a GameCube, but plan on getting a Revolution. This will ensure better graphics.
(it will also ensure longer development time, but..)

According to the people we talked to at the expo, it's for this generation consoles. It was designed around the xbox, and is "possibly" being ported to the other two. They had playable alpha demos on all consoles.

Hmm.. strange.. Their website sais it is made for all three, and there is videos of it on nintendo.com .. strange indeed..

I truly hope they'll make a nintendo-version of it. If not, I won't be playing it.

I guess I should clarify what I was getting at here...
They are "planning" on releasing it for all 3 systems, and they are hoping they can. they are still in Pre-Alpha stages with the demo, and they have a long way to go. They had it playable on all 3 consoles at E3.

I have something along those lines in my coverage post...sorry to confuse anyone.

If we are waiting until Sp'06 at the earliest for Ghost, how long will we have to wait for SC2!? Its going to be ages....has it even been started/talked about/pre-developed/story-boarded/etc???

I'm hoping for 2007, although I realize that's probably wishful thinking. ;) Maybe Blizzard is secretly working on it already and not telling anyone. Hmm, wait this is Blizzard... ;)

Its probably so discret that there is a small sect of game programmers who started it as an after-hours/at home project, without even 'The Blizzard' (the being that is) knowing about it. Problem is, they have to fit it in to their massive addiction to WoW and playing all the other awesome games they produce :p :D

Spring 2006? WTF, is blizzard competing with Duke Nukem forever? Who can delay their FPS game the most!!!

Yup. From their FAQ:
When will StarCraft: Ghost be released?
While we have not yet announced a street date for StarCraft: Ghost, we anticipate that the game will be complete in the first half of 2006. However, as with all of our games, we will not release StarCraft: Ghost until it meets the high standards that Blizzard gamers and our development teams demand.

Wasn't it supposed to be out in 2003 or something?

Now that would be cool, however unlikely I'm afraid. ;) Who knows when SC2 would be made, but hopefully it's before Diablo III - just a personal preference. WarCraft is good for a while now, with WCIII and WoW, so hopefully Blizzard isn't considering Ghost to be the next true StarCraft, and then feel as though they don't have to do anything else SC-relatedf for another 5 years...

You know what? I have a feeling they don't see it as the next true StarCraft, but I don't think they'll release another StarCraft-related thing before 5 years, so 2010 earliest? Maybe 2015? (1997-2006=9yrs, 2006-2015=9yrs)

Was/is Warcraft as popular as Starcraft was/is? Personally I much prefer SC to WC anyday. WCIII is cool, but SC has that classic appeal. The graphics are much nicer in WCIII but that is to be expected with a much newer game.
WoW, well what can I say. I have only played for perhaps an hour or two max, single sitting. I refuse to purchase an account for fear I will fall into a deep and inexcapable trance to online gameplay, not get my school-work done, not do my job at work (if I would even go to work), etc etc. The game was fun for the time I played it, but it wasn't THAT hard to set down either.

Sure you're biased, so am I. If I prefer one thing over another, its hard not to be biased about it. My thought was simply if there are more biased people in favor of SC vs. WC, they should be working on WoS or SC2 instead of producing more and more WC games. SC only had the initial game, WC had 3!!!, and now WoW, basically 4!

Can someone find sales numbers somewhere (always wondered where these turn up) that show WC vs. SC sales in the initial versions, something that would sort of show the motive for Blizzard to go the WC route over the SC route. Personally I think it was a poor choice, but that is simply because I love SC so much :D

Yah, I completely agree with you, I'd love to see the sales figures as well. I'm not knocking WC, but as you said, WC has essentially had 4 games (granted it started before SC was even around, so fair enough), but SC has only had one! And I don't think counting Ghost as "2" is fair, I'd much rather see SC2.

The only reason I would lean against working on a WoS first is because I would rather have a nice, new, updated, shiny game (i.e. SC2) out so that WoS would be based on that. Although a WoS would be cool right now, it would obviously be based on SC, and they could probably do a lot more with it if they based it on something more recent.

Anyway, all I'll say is Blizzard, bring us SC2 sooner rather than later!

There was big story about blizzard hiring some RTS guy from Command and Conquer and something else. I have a feeling early development is starting on SC two.

Yeah I wasn't hatin' (I love that speak  ) on WC either, but 4 vs. 1 seems a little one-sided considering when people mention Blizzard probably 8 of 10 think SC....at least all 8 of me out of the ten think SC. WC is fun, but SC is AMAZING, even in its age it is still a great game and fun to play. I had a buddy who just inherited his father's old laptop, and he wanted to play SC but sadly I had work to do before leaving for France. Now I am here, reading this, and I wish I had played one last time before leavnig for work. I have to get hybrid disks when I get back though, I have the old v1.01 disks that are pc only :(

You'll be pissin' yourself for some time, better get some towels and other absorbant materials ready. The moment we actually hear something pseudo-final about SC2 I give it 1.5-2 years before we actually have it in-hand and playable, and 2 years is probably a bit optomistic. Perhaps they have been developing all this time and just not saying anything because they want to turn around their image of a very VERY slow release (I can hope right?), but more than likely, quite sadly, its probably not happening anytime soon

Yep, it's just one of those games that stands the test of time. A timeless classic, and it always will be for me, just like my other all-time favorite (and much older) games like Autoduel and Wasteland.

Yah, my bet is on the latter, not the former. If they were working on it you think something would have leaked. But, one can always dream. At this point though, having SC2 installed on my Mac before we enter the next decade seems like a longshot. :(

Man I hope they are working on a Starcraft 2...but just keeping it a good secret ;)

I remember seeing the SC characters in WCIII and I got VERY excited, as I thought it was a little taste, or proof that they were working on it

Don't they know they would sell about a trillion copies of it if they got SC2 out to us? I mean, how hard would it be to just use the WCIII engine and essentially throw in some different models ;)

anyone know if there is a mod like that around? Now I'm in a Starcraft mood...

Well, they definitely set things up nicely for a sequel in Brood War, especially with the hidden Zeratul level (damn, it took me a few tries to access that bastard!) so I'm sure they're committed to it - they'd be fools not to realize the potential sales they'd have. But, as with everything else, they only have so many resources and can only have so many projects on the go. So, as I said above, let's hope they make SC2 they're next big project after Ghost - if they choose to do Diablo III I'll be pissed. ;)

My good friend IRL has a 'source' and online friend who is a game developer for Subspace, aka Continuum, and he works closely with people from Blizzard for joint developments and knows a few of them personally.

He said (to my friend) that he cannot say much, but we should be able to see 'something' by '06, at least at the next E3.

So *hopefully* (please please please!) this is accurate and *hopefully* Blizzard is really working on it. Just the thought makes my day....well almost.

Oh sorry, it is in reference to SC2, not Diablo III. I was running off of an assumed SC2 understanding because I was writing fast, and never went back to re-read my own post so I didn't realize I never specified anything.

He said that we should get *something* on SC2 in (hopefully) early '06 and at least by the next E3. I hope its accurate. He has spoken briefly on other Blizzard related works before and its usually decently on target, so here is to hoping I guess :o

No worries, it's just that there was some Diablo III talk going on there as well. ;)

Well, let's hope then that we see something at E3 next year then, and that Blizzard doesn't drag their feet in getting the actual product to market too long after that. They must realize they're sitting on a gold mine.

Yes, that's interesting, I wonder which will happen first... ;)

Kay, I am now (very) optimistically hoping for a SC2 announcement at E3 in 2006, with an announced (and realized!) release date of sometime in 2007. I guess I can wait a couple more years <sigh>....
