I am trying to find a 9600 pro to put in a G4, or a 9600XT.

Sorry to be irrelevant but which G4 model? Just wanted to let you know if you say sawtooth, the 9600 wont work without mods because the sawtooth is AGP 2X and the 9600 is 4X. You need to mod it to get it working.
If it is the YIKES! model it wont work because it has no AGP slot and it uses PCI graphics.

It is a digital audio just like mine.

OWC ($119) (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Apple/630ATI96G4/) has them specifically modified for use in DA/QS/MDD.

Same QS, but one ? For dual CRTs. & Flash / Photoshop / CubaseXT, is the 9600 XT the best choice for the buck?

'9600xt' is very hard to find, and getting to the price point of a refurbed 9800 or flashed 9800. the OWC 9600 is a Pro card with slightly less core and memory speed, hard to beat for the $$ spent. ~$99-$119.

I do think I remember reading the '9600XT' version was an AGP 8x card, thus not capable of being used in a G4 (with the tape mod). The '9600' Pro card is a 8x/4x AGP card and can be forced into 4x mode, hence what OWC is selling...

DO not think the 9600XT is a good choice for a G4 Mac.

However, one problem (at least for me) is that the 9600 Pro has an unpowered ADC port. I don't know of any G4 compatible card beyond the 9000 that does have a powered ADC port. I also would love to upgrade the card in my MDD, but the need for a powered ADC port for my studio display has kept me from upgrading so far.

you can still use the Apple DVI to ADC converter / pack to drive your ADC monitor.. have seen these on Ebay for as little as $40, plus a G5 9600 and you have a great setup (which can move to a 9800 later on).

I didn't know that the G5 9600's were 4x AGP. I've seen a few around different places, I'll have to see what I can find. The only issue with using the DVI to ADC converter is the fact that I am using both the ADC and DVI ports on the 9000 right now, so I would also have to get an ADC to VGA adaptor to utilize the ADC port with one of my VGA displays. I'm using the 9000 along with a 9200 to run triple displays. I see a big difference in speed between the 9000 (4x AGP) and the 9200 (PCI), and I need to have the AGP speed on at least two of the displays. It does make it harder to do any video upgrades, but I guess there is a price to be paid when running triple displays. :p

and I may have spoken too soon on the XT version, it very well may be 'taped' as well.

seems the Pro and XT are all 4x / 8x cards instead of being 8x Pro only (as the 5200 ultra, and 9800 G5 Special Edition are).

Daniel, you could move to a 9600 in your MDD and run the two displays off of it, or the 9200. Basically the combinations are wide open :). However, I would buy a 9800 through NewEgg for it... the performance is huge btw a 9000 and a 9800. (of course so is the heat).

I need a x800 for our G5, but will wait (still....) a week or two to see what ATI / Nvidia are releasing.

Fortunately, I don't need to upgrade right away. I have live with the 9000/9200 tandem for a few weeks now, and it's not too bad (I would love to have support for Core image, though :) ) I've just been looking at the possibilities that I have for the near future, and so far I'm leaning toward holding out a little longer for a 9800. I'll probably scrape up a few more pennies and go with that in the next few weeks.
