If anybody knows of commercial pages that refer to the G5 put them here.
Epson Sweden has the G5 for real in a printer ad (in Swedish)
MacNN.com came first with this message.
"EPL-5800 - A4-skrivare med skrivhastighet 10 sid/min och ett papperskassett för 150 ark. Standard utrustade EPL-5800 kan kopplas till Apple iMac och Apple G3/G4/G5/Cube (O.S 8.1 eller högre) direkt från ur lådan med den så kallade "Quickdraw driver", via USB. Det finns dock inget stöd för PostScript fonter eller EPS filer. "
Here is the link:

So ... anybody else...?????

I read some more and found this -> USB och parallellt IEEE 1284-gränssnitt är standard.
What is IEEE 1284?

What you think ?
is it possible that we see a G5 in next time ?
New Printer for iMac G4/G5/Cube
Thats cool because if its a mistake ---> Think the last word is Cube not G5 when it were G5 ok i can say they wrote some **** at their site, but so ... ?
You dont say "this Printer is ready for PC, iMac, G4/G5/Cube"
When this Computers are not available ....
Iam very sure that we will see a G5 VERY VERY soon.
And the iMac now has a G4, thats also too strong for a Consumer Computer, who says I buy a PRO even if he has 1,2 GHz ITS A G4
So i say i take the big iMac and have 800 G4 with a Superdrive and monitor !
What more ?!
So Iam very sure to see a "real" G5 soon

Maybe they meant that it works on:
G4's/G5's/and the Cube (the G4 one, of course).
I seriously doubt that Apple would make a G5 cube.

the G5 cube will come out along with the newly revamped Apple PDA! U will be able to get both components for $99.95...

Hopefully this isn't a fluke, and hopefully Apple knows what to do for a G5 cube this time....

Jan 11, 2002, 10:16 AM
This is stupid, dont speculate about a dumb G5 cube. It aint happening, certainly not before a G5 tower.
They put imac seperate from it because it is the worlds most famous computer.
dantec
Jan 11, 2002, 10:57 AM
It was going to happen before..? They would launch both products at the same time... As long as the cube is not overpriced (around $300 more than the iMac) but comes with some revolutionary features it should be able to take off from the ground.
What about the neXt cube??? Did that ever suceed? Or did it end up as the cube we all know?
spikey
Jan 11, 2002, 11:19 AM
Firstly:
If apple did launch a G5 cube and towers then they wouldnt launch them at the same time. We covered this in the imac2 debate, it makes no marketing sense.
secondly:
semi-pro users want expandability, whether they need it or not, they want it.
Thirdly:
To price a G5 cube 300$ above the imac would make the cube around 2100$, which is too much for a semi-pro user.
fourthly:
Apple needs to concentrate on getting the pro-line up to scratch so they are able to cater for their 2 biggest markets (consumer, pro), until they concentrate and put money into developing the new towers then they will not put any effort into a cube.

1st...
there isn't going to be a G5 cube...
2nd...
if there ever was one, and it was $300 over the price of the iMac, it would flop again...
3rd...
let's not discuss a G5 cube because it pointless!

It never said G5 Cube.
It said G3/G4/G5/Cube - it works on all those systems.

Companies list products as they appear in VAX inventory databases:
A G4 cube : iMac/G4 450/128/30Gb/1000bt/56k/RADEON/$1299.95/In stock
so iMac/G4/G5/Cube translates as: works with all USB Macs.

Jan 11, 2002, 01:10 PM
I know I got a little too carried away, but why not classify the Cube as a G4 instead of its own system? Even apple has classified it as a Low end G4.

The Apple G5 will be out January 21st 2002. It will start at 1.2 Ghz and go up from there. Within a year it will be over 2 Ghz. Also, new colors for the PM will be in the offing. Most all of the Major software will be out by spring. About April, most of the stragglers will be on board.

Simple. As I illustrated above:People are morons. If you tell them it works with "All USB Macs" they'll blink at you and say"Yeah but what about my iMac?"or"Oh good so it should work in my Quadra" or "I thought USB was just a research OS"
I had a customer get in a screaming match with each of 5 employees in a Mac only (Apple Specialists thank you) store I worked for insisting that her old LC III had Parallel and we were LYING to her that Macs had never had Parallel. She had already bought two SCSI 3 cables, thinking they were Parallel and furious that we sold faulty, non-standard connectors. She never did get it. She earned the title "screaming Lady" as every time she came in she had some hairbrained falsehood in mind that she'd defend as if she were the only compitant tech on earth, as if it was all some conspiracy we'd concocted to make her look stupid.

So the point is when and why not now.
It's most probably to do with commercial difficulties...not a great conspiracy syndrome...and until then the iMac (jan) with whatever is otto matic, does anyone know...?
(it's the replacement for Bugdom).

"She has become..."(timpani)"...MEGA-MAID!!!!"
by the way, when and only when the g5 comes out will apple's line be balanced. they need maybe g4 ibooks (maybe late this year) but i doubt seriously the appearance of any g5 powerbooks any time soon. the best thing they could do for the powerbook right now is to work on bringing back the hotswapable drives from the g3 powerbook (add a few inches but who cares? {Ok maybe on the ibook}).
BUT
before any of that, OPTIMIZE OS X!!!! it's still not equivalent feature-wise to OS 9 as far as what you can do. they better have at least two major updates by the end of the year and plenty of litte small ones throughout.

"And now some more G5 sightings. After the Epson fiasco (which we pointed out is really two
years old... how do we know? Simply go to this page and look when the dir was last modified -
"24-Jul-2000 10:49*"), we were pointed to a Canadian page:
"Macintosh computer with G3, G4, or G5 processor and at least 96 Mbytes ..."
Thanks Mika.
Update (01/11/02 4:50 P.M.): The e-mails keep coming in about G5 "leaks".. Here's an ad from
Absoft:
"Absoft is actively involved in compiler development on all levels. A successful job candidate will
take a leading role in developing advanced code generators, optimization and instruction
scheduling technologies and other components of future compilers for Intel's IA64 (Itanium) and
IBM/Motorola PowerPC G4/G5 processors" Know something?"

I think we will see another large update to Mac OS 10 in the near future... OS 10.1 was launched at the 6 of the clock and we are at nine... By the time we reach 12 we will have 10.2 (hopefully if all goes smoothly)

I am hoping for G5's soon, I need a computer but want to wait, San-Fran was dissapointing though the iMac is cool, (needs dual monitor support...)
I wish that they would have released an updated osX. Why didn't they even mention it, I am worried when they will get some speed up. I may only be running a B&W G3 at 550 but, I can't figure why it seems so sluggish....
One thing being a mac fan you have to wait and be patient:D

fooling around with Win 98 today... I can't believe how sluggish it was! (this is on PC, not in VPC). Mac OS 10 on my 366 indigo iBook kicks Win 98's ass on a 300mhz PC!?!
(Apart from Startup times... )
Mac OS 10 runs quite well on a 867 quicksilver, but it could be faster... Even in quicktime frames lag behind... etc etc...
Lets just all be happy we don't have Copland 2 which apple would have spent another $500 million and flushed it down the toilet...

TAGGE: Until this battle station is fully operational we are vulnerable. The Rebel Alliance is too well equipped. They're more dangerous than you realize.
MOTTI: Dangerous to your starfleet, Commander, not to this battle station!
TAGGE: The Rebellion will continue to gain a support in the Imperial Senate as long as....
Suddenly all heads turn as Commander Tagge's speech is cut short and the Grand Moff Tarkin, governor of the Imperial outland regions, enters. He is followed by his powerful ally, The Sith Lord, Darth Vader. All of the generals stand and bow before the thin, evil-looking governor as he takes his place at the head of the table. The Dark Lord stands behind him.
TARKIN: The Imperial Senate will no longer be of any concern to us. I've just received word that the Emperor has dissolved the council permanently. The last remnants of the Old Republic have been swept away.
TAGGE: That's impossible! How will the Emperor maintain control without the bureaucracy?
TARKIN: The regional governors now have direct control over territories. Fear will keep the local systems in line. Fear of this battle station.
TAGGE: And what of the Rebellion? If the Rebels have obtained a complete technical readout of this station, it is possible, however unlikely, that they might find a weakness and exploit it.
VADER: The plans you refer to will soon be back in our hands.
MOTTI: Any attack made by the Rebels against this station would be a useless gesture, no matter what technical data they've obtained. This station is now the ultimate power in the universe. I suggest we use it!
VADER: Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force.
MOTTI: Don't try to frighten us with your sorcerer's ways, Lord Vader. Your sad devotion to that ancient religion has not helped you conjure up the stolen data tapes, or given you clairvoyance enough to find the Rebel's hidden fort...
Suddenly Motti chokes and starts to turn blue under Vader's spell.
VADER: I find your lack of faith disturbing.
TARKIN: Enough of this! Vader, release him!
VADER: As you wish.
TARKIN: This bickering is pointless. Lord Vader will provide us with the location of the Rebel fortress by the time this station is operational. We will then crush the Rebellion with one swift stroke.

Word on the street is that Apple is working on a new enclosure for the G5. That design is due for completion in April. The smart money says no G5's before then.

Standard utrustade EPL-5800 kan kopplas till Apple iMac och Apple G3/G4/Cube (O.S 8.1 eller högre) direkt från ur lådan med den så kallade "Quickdraw driver", via USB.
