who here has 'em? two days ago i got another tattoo and piercing.

tattoos:
i have a 5" x 5" Black sun on my back that i drew and i just got a ying-yang tattooed on my inner left wrist

piercings:
i have my left ear lobe pierced, stretched to 12 gauge right now, planning on going to 6. i just got my labret pierced, i had it done previously, but took it out for various reasons, missed it a lot so i finally got it re-done.

i have also had my eyebrow pierced, two in my left cartilage and one in my right, and i have an second unstretched hold in my left lobe.

i am planning to add more tattoos and piercings this summer and in the near future. i plan on a shadow of a meditating figure on my back, a barcode, and perhaps the Japanese symbol for Chaos. not sure of the order of getting these but plan on the tattoos eventually. i also plan on piercing my nipples at the end of summer, stretching my ear a bit more too....

what do the members of MR have? pictures welcome as long as they are not xrated! LoL

1 pierce from almost 20 years ago. Long since took the earring out, but the hole is still there (and still open).

0 ink. Too *****. BUT, if I could stand it, this is what I'd get:

I'm not one for tattoos. :o I remember my dad telling me years ago that if I went out and got off-the-wall piercings and tattoos I wouldn't be allowed under his roof anymore.

I obviously come from a conservative family.

Both ears were pierced (lobes), still have the holes but closed.
I wanted to get the webbing between my thumb and index finger pierced, but no one will pierce it, too risky could paralyze my hand or the piercing could get ripped out from snagging on something (and it probably would too knowing my luck). I tried to pierce the webbing myself once, I got the post in half way but couldnt get it through the palm side, skin too tough.
Ink - no ink, probably never. Im all good with others who have ink, just not right for me. If I did, it would probably be something along the lines of a tribal sun.

Heres a great site Body Modification E-Zine (http://www.bmezine.com/)

No piercings.

Kanji for "Compassion/Mercy" on my right upper chest, in the hollow where one would rest a head. The colour is Fatal Plus (http://www.nmanimalcontrol.com/euthanasia/HEPP/summary.html) blue. I got it done after restraining a number of animals for my wife (an Animal Control Officer) for Euthanasia one particularly bad summer. We had the same tatoo done in the same session. Both of us restrain to the left shoulder. She said she trained me to help her because she could trust me to make that last couple of minutes compassionate for the critter and safe for her. I was deeply moved and decided that would be my first permanent "badge".

I'm currently working on the design for a second and third piece.

The second is a partial Jaguar face centered on the eyes for my back, the spots on the forehead will frame the Kanji for "Service/Samurai" at the base of my neck and the pupils will have subtle flames, as if reflected.

The image came to me in a very unexpected manner. I've had various culture's oracles run my numbers: Numerology, western Zodiac, Eastern Zodiac, etc. None of the resonated for me beyond a sort of superficial "Yeah, that sounds sorta generally accurate". Recently someone ran my numbers via a particularly interesting version of the Mayan calendar and my god.... It not only fit the usual superficial profile but specific fascinations I've always had but never thought about. As I was falling asleep that night I had a very clear image of this face on my back. I've been carefully building an image ever since.

I have chosen to become a Firefighter/Paramedic. Once I've hired onto an agency I'll get the third piece, which will be a Kanji reflecting that new path. I've yet to find the right single or double character, but there's lots of resources out there.

I HAVE
a henna-red lizard crawling up my leg (he's pretty small tho, his name is Roger) (my partner has matching henna dolphins swimming around his...erm, well anyway, we got matching tats like, a week or two after we met? and we're still together)
ears at 16 gauge (hey, i just started, shut up, i'm going to maybe 4 gauge plugs)

I'M GETTING
tribal all over one shoulder/down arm
Roger reinked in black to match the tribal
nips pierced

...maybe more, depends on what line of work i'm in. my office is pretty liberal, but a spiked eyebrow piercing might not fly. hmm... then again it might be funny...

I've never considered getting any tatoos. I just can't imagine wanting one in 12 years when I'm 30. Piercings aren't quite as permanent so I might consider getting one of those, but I just don't see the point . I'd rather express myself through clothing, personally.

I love tattoo, and have sketchbooks filled with designs I would love to get. I fancy myself a bit of a tattoo artist. I'd love to get a job doing it. I don't have any because I have psoriasis, and what's to say a spot wouldn't pop up right where I get a tattoo. I may one day, just to spite it all.

I felt the same way until my wife got hers. She currently has three beyond the one above: Kanji for "strength" at the base of her neck, a sleeping full-colour dragon in the small of her back and a dogwood flower (BC Provincial flower) on her right hip that she got the valentine's day before our wedding.

Through her first three I developped a framework for my own tattoo "rules" and realized what my hangup really was. I wasn't going to put anything on my skin that wouldn't have meaning my whole life and mark an accomplishment I felt strongly about. As a result I've only got the one and the two or three I'm working on will mark other personal achievements. It took me thinking about it to realize that what it came down to is that I had a low expectation of myself.... and that was a profound thing by itself.

I get the whole, in-x-years-i-wont-want-it thing, but I'm more worried that if I didn't, I might be lying on my deathbed counting regrets over the fun stuff I wanted to do, but didn't. Realistically it would take a pretty dramatic shift to make me totally hate a tat, I can't imagine that. And I choose for aesthetics, not meaning. But to each his own, I'm just happy that tattooing is still legal :)

That's why I get tattoos that have some kind of significance that's personal.
The most important thing in my life, after my wife and dog, is music.

I've been listening to Fugazi since 1988, their music is still very much important to me.
The red and black logo is the Einstürzende Neubauten (http://www.neubauten.org) Supporters logo. I've been listening to them for 16 years and I've been a supporter from very soon after they started the project.

I figure if I've been listening to stuff for that long then I'm not about to stop!

Two tattoos.

One on my left shoulder: a half moon with clouds streaming in front of it, rather neat looking.

One on my right ankle: a black abstract-looking orchid about 3 inches long.

I hate the one on my ankle, absolutely hate it. I am dying to get it removed. It's well done and all, I just don't like how it looks anymore, especially when I'm dressed nicely for work or something, in a dress or skirt. I think it looks trashy. Got it when I was 17, and never thought I'd regret it, but it didn't take long...

Had my tongue pierced for about a year. Took the barbell out one day with every intention of putting it back, and when I went to replace it about an hour later, the hole was completely closed up!

Anyway, the actual piercing didn't hurt, but I was MISERABLE for about a week after. Couldn't really eat, spoke with a lisp, tongue hurt like hell. Fortunately all of that cleared up soon enough and then it was sort of a fun thing to have....

ears pierced (by my mother when i was quite young), and tongue pierced about 7 years ago. thought i might have "outgrown" my tongue piercing by now, but i still like it. i work in a corporate function, and a tongue piercing is quite unique in my field - i find i like being unique in that way among my colleagues. or maybe i'm just more of an attention whore than i like to admit.

i did have my belly button pierced in college, but i didn't take care of it and it did not heal well at all, so i eventually took it out since the scar tissue was pushing it out anyway. i have a scar still, but nothing horrendous.

i have a small tribal design on my lower back. that's it for ink - no plans to get anything else.

Sweeet!

Girls can't get prince alberts, but we can do other things:

* I had both my nipples pierced at one point, but they were since rejected.
* Have 3-4 piercings in each ear.
* Tattoos as follows: dolphin at the base of my spine (designed by my ex-girlfriend), tree frog on the back of my right arm, phases of the moon in black-work wrapped around my right forearm (pentagram for full moon), and a kitten curled up and sleeping nestled between my breasts on my chest.

Next tattoo will be the chemical formula for clay surrounded by flames on my right outer arm (I'm a potter and ceramic artist).

I also have two cuttings (designs done with a scalpel cut in to the skin to produce semi-permanent scars): a Hebrew "chi" (18th letter of the alphabet, stands for life) on my interior left bicep, and a triple moon goddess symbol on my interior right bicep.

bartelby: hmm.. I prefer some of the crazy stuff from the ohGr/Welt sleeve, but 1 SP tattoo is enough for me. I'm still considering getting the 'Church of the Process (http://process.org/)' symbol added as a background, though ;)

Single piercing in left ear lobe, not stretched and no plans to do so. Diamond stud, perhaps a little pretty-boyish, but the diamond was a gift from the ex, I can't afford anything as nice to replace it :p

No ink to date however I am debating it. I was thinking some Kanji-like symbol for either Truth or Strength on the left side of my frame, under my arm. Basically lower than the armpit on the side of my chest I guess. Not sure if I will do it yet, and if so not sure what size.

I had a couple of girlfriends who thought it would be "so cool" to get tatts in high school...

My ex best friend (a total bit*h), didn't do any research (was trying to hide all of this from her mom) and although we are Chinese and surrounded by people who could help her out-- she ended up w/ a character that is written incorrectly. HAH!

This other girl took her time deciding on a tattoo... She has one of the most elegant tattoos I have seen to date: a smallish Lotus on the back of her neck.

Umm as for me, two lobe piercings on each ear. But it's a been awhile, I think that the more recent holes have since closed up... :(

Reminds me of the failed NBC sitcom this past fall. The black guy gets a tattoo of a Chinese character that was supposed to me strength (or something like that); ended with something that read " man who loves aman - and you are the "woman""....

I currently have two tattoos; one on my left thigh of a Lion and the astrological symbol for Leo, and the start of a "tribal" piece that is on my left pec, and slated to go around to my back left shoulder blade.

For my right upper arm I have an idea for the "tribal" petroglyph hand print set in the center of a sun that will be colored on the top half to symbolize the rising sun, the bottom the setting sun.

I do have my left nipple pierced, and looking to up gage it this year. I have always been interested in getting a guiche and a PA - but am too chicken in particular with the PA.

Got this one a few months back. I used to live in Sevilla; this is the symbol of the city. It's used everywhere in the city, on buildings, sewer grates, anything. The symbol in the middle is supposed to represent a skein of wool (a 'madeja' in Spanish) so the whole thing means 'No me ha dejado', or 'She has not deserted me'. There's a whole wicked cool history behind it involving Alfonso el Sabio, the same guy who said, 'Had I been present at the creation, I would have given some useful hints for the better ordering of the universe.'

http://www.davidbowie.com/users/eat/NO8DO.jpg

Later this year I plan on getting another around my left calf, in the Sindarin elvish writing (not the fancy script) from The Lord of the Rings saying 'All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost.' I know, I'm a total nerd. :)

I guess I am the only one here with no tattoos or piercings or any other unnecessary body modifications (surgical scars don't count). Not even pierced ears, no one in my family has pierced ears. Thought about getting a belly buttons rings but I heal very badly so I would probably reject it anyways, have pierced peoples ears, nose and belly buttons though...
the closest I get is henna and airbrushed designs. and clip ons
That however does not prevent me from admiring and enjoying tattoos and piercings etc. on other people when done well and creatively. too many generic tattoos around especially the 15 year old girls with playboy bunnies on their asses or breasts (stupid).
I like the work of urbanprimitive.com

You're not the only one, I've never had anything permanent done to my body. The closest thing I had was a chain around my neck, one that's designed for you to put on and keep on. I had it on for about 3 years, but finally took it off a few months ago.

Industrial (14 or 12 gauge, don't know) in my left ear... also really want to get my right eyebrow pierced, although I've been hesitant. Love my first piercing though, especially people's reactions. They are certainly addicting, and expensive.

I'd like a tattoo on my right arm, I was originally considered the kanji for "karate" (open hand) but now I'm more excited by a Celtic Cross. Both have great meaning, that's why I would get a tattoo.

Well, I'm scared of needles. Very scared. I don't even consider a piercing - a needle that goes RIGHT through your skin and comes out the other side? Eaarrrrggghhhh *runs away in fear*

I have a hard enough time to brave needles at the doctor's office, the idea of taking that needle, making it even more painful, and then using it repeatedly... is enough to scare me off the idea of a tattoo.

I have a phobia concerning needles, I can't even watch injections on the TV.
But being tattoo'd is different, it's fun.
After a minute or two your nerves kinda give up as they're overloaded.
You just get a warm feeling spread across your skin, with the odd sharp pain
when they get to thin skin or a tense muscle.

It's not a continuous pain though.

I have a hard time syncing time and money. If I could sort this out I'd have a lot more tatts.

Wouldn't have put it like that myself, but it depends where you get them. I have one down the inside of my left bicep and it hurt like hell, but having my arm all twisted up so the guy could do it didn't help. I hear that shoulders, calves and backs don't hurt so much; probably easier if it's not solid black too.

I like that sort of look. And would like do the ears again, but at a soon to be 47 - it would look like a mid-life crisis. Not to mention an "old-school" retail mentality on my part keeps any modifications below the neckline.

Only tattoo I have is a radiation alignment one. If the cancer comes back a 3rd time I think I will get a tattoo. I have the design planned out sorta.

There would be a skull and planet kinda merged together with the words, "Cancer: Death from inside" around the top

then underneath it would "World Tour" and then beneath that have the various years and symbols.
2001 (Knife, Radiation Symbol)
2003 (BioHazard Symbol)

It would sorta be a metal band T-shirt styled thing,

The PA really isn't as painful as most people think it is. It's also fast healing and truly adds a lot of sensation, I say go for it, I don't regret it. I have both my nipples pierced, that was more painful but has also turned out to be rather pleasurable.

I could go without running for a week. What persuaded me otherwise was that you're unable to do rather a lot of things in the healing period. You can also concievably die from blood loss, if it happens in your sleep. Scary.
