According to unconfirmed tipsters, iTunes 4.10 is coming soon (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=111996), possibly September.
Whether it is timed with expected iPod announcements or as a separate announcement is unknown.
No known features have been leaked.

I've seen that sort of thing before. It does happen. They may wait for iLife 6 to announce iTunes 5.

Well in software development terms, wouldn't .10 still be .1 or do developers do things differently?

No, don't think of the dot as a decimal, just think of it as a separator. So you'll sometimes get version numbers like 12.6.14, etc.

That is true, didn't think of it like that. I still doubt we will see .10. I think 5 will our next version.

I too doubt that Apple will release an iTunes 4.10. I hope Apple releases iTunes 5 sooner rather than later, if only to clear the way for version 6 in iLife '06 :)
Windows version numbers can get REALLY strange-looking. Here's an example from my own Windows XP SP2 PC:
Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519 : Service Pack 2)

Bogus. I even heard about iTunes 5.0 with more powerful multimedia capabilities.

iTunes 4.1
iTunes 4.10
iTunes 4.100
iTunes 4.1000
They're all the same number. If there's a version after 4.9, but before 5.0, I'd assume it'd be something like 4.9.1. Or 4.91.

iTunes 4.100

Again, with software numbering, it's not a decimal, it's a dot. the version isn't 4 and one tenth, its version 4, 10th revision. So yes, the version after 4.9 would be 4.10, as weird as that looks.

I can't seem to remember that Apple has used this kind of version numbering anytime. They're consequent on this: 7.5.1-9 --> 7.6, or 10.3.1-9 --> 10.4. There has never been a x.10 version of any Apple software earlier, AFAIK.
So in my eyes it's most probably version 4.9 or version 5 that will be released soon.

iTunes 4.10 is much too confusing, IMO. People could mistake it for 4.1, which is confusing considering the current latest version is 4.8. 4.9.1 makes more sense.

this topic SO FASCINATING!
Someone just "out of the blue", like debbie gibson, just claims that there will be a 4.10 iTunes with nothing to back it up.
if thats the case well then:
Quicktime 9.6 will be released sometime in the future :o

I believe this thread was meant as a joke and a reference to the original iTunes 4.9 rumor before iTunes 4.8 came out (which was also meant as a half-joke).

when itunes 5 comes out i hope that you will be able to download music videos and possibly movies off itmsNo, no mistake. iTunes 4.9 is due for release in the next several weeks, that is well-known by now. iTunes 4.9 will probably be showcased and released at MacWorld Boston (11-14 July 2005). MacWorld Boston 2005 is going to focus heavily on music (http://www.macnn.com/articles/05/06/14/macworld.music/). So releasing iTunes 4.9 at MacWorld Boston makes sense. Releasing iTunes 5.0 then is also possible (and makes sense) if they can ramp up production and finish it before then. However, that is less than a month away, so not likely.
iTunes 4.10.x will then be released via Software Update in September or October. iTunes 4.10.x being the last major update before the heavily revised iTunes 5 is released. iTunes 5 will likely require a G4 processor or newer, therefore eliminating G3 (and earlier) based machines from using iTunes 5.
iTunes 5 will probably be showcased and released at MacWorld SF 2006. Unless Apple releases it sooner or holds-off for a later release. ;)  :D

Huh? Are you serious?
Now, I cannot be sure. That is just a guess. All logical reasoning must be done at one's own risk. I assume no responsibility. ;) :D

It could have a cool name, like iTunes 4.9 + and if you click get info or more info or about the app, it would say:
Apple iTunes 4.9 +

What's the source?Aah, source you say? So you want a source. Well sometimes we all just need to have faith and believe. People are just way too cynical and distrustful. What the world needs is more naivety and gullibility. Yeah, that's it. That's the ticket! And I got your source hanging right here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=111996). ;) :D

With iTunes 4.9 we are getting podcasting.
What improvement or feature (note the singular tense, that is purposeful) do you want in iTunes 4.10?

Better playlist organization.
My thoughts are to the AV iPod that will be able to MPG and/or AVI videos. Or support for an iPod MAXI - something akin to the Epson P-2000.
