I guess men can comment as well but I can pretty much envision the kind of responses I'd get. ;) Anyway, I was born a woman and I do identify as a woman... but I am so sick and tired of dealing w/ "womanly" hair!
I'm starting to seriouisly think about shaving my hair off. Not bald, clean, shiny head... just, set to like, a 1 or maybe a 0.
Don't you think it'd be nice to be able to motor w/ the windows down and not hafta give a second thought about that wind tearing apart your carefully-one-hour-session-sculpted-hairdo?
The thing is... I am a bit too aware of others' impressions and I don't want to be mistaken as "butch" because, A) I'm not, and B) I'm hetero, and C) I'm not butch! So what do you ladies, think?

Or just go for a 'do' that doesn't require an hour of careful sculpting? Or get into the Audrey Hepburn look and wear a scarf... I just go for the longish, tousled look these days!
Personally, I wouldn't go for my hair that short. I've had it pretty short in the past but you almost need to invest more in haircuts since you need it really well done to avoid if you're skinny looking like a prisoner of war, or if too chubby-cheeked looking like a bowling ball..

Thanks for the quick reply. Hee... chubby-cheeked bowling ball would be me. Sigh. Yeah, my hair right now is just about chin-length; it does require trims, but my thought w/ shaving was that if it's allover, I can entrust my boyfriend to shave my head for me whenever I need a trim. Not to mention, all the fun and funky wigs I could wear! Hot pink one day, lime green another... really lonog and curly hair or simple bobs; ah the freedom of choice.
I just told my mom about my idea: she freaked out. Woops. hehe. Oh well, my hair, my head, my choice!

I think some women can totally get away with it, and look fabulous, but some look really awful. The only way to find out is to try it, unfortunately, although if you've got a kind of cute pixie face you'll probably suit having very short hair.
I, sadly, don't suit it at all, but I loved having really short hair. I had it really short and cropped for a fair while. However my squarish, slightly chubby face shape looked gross with it, and cause I dress quite boyishly I looked really butch and scruffy. But until recently I had it as long as I needed it to look good, but still a 'short' haircut, which meant I actually looked female, but still didn't have to make much effort. Now I seem to have inadvertently grown a massive curly mop (see profile pic), but that's more out of laziness.
What about having it really short, but not actually shaved? A good hairdresser can make a really short cut (even like 1cm) still look styled by cutting it well, and it'll last a while. Also, hairdressers can be quite helpful about what suits your face shape. Mine told me that I needed a bit of hair showing behind my ears (cough-MULLET!-cough), which is definitely right, and as long as I keep to that I can get away with a short haircut that I wouldn't have done otherwise.
If you're anything like me (which by the fact that you're considering it means you may well be), i.e. less precious about your hair than some why not give it a shot? It'll be an inch long in a month if you don't like it, and then you could get a short styled thing going on....

Plus, as an added bonus, you'll need to spend SO MUCH less time in the shower! As a guy with long hair, it's the only part I miss about having short hair.

I just wanna throw in my 2¢. If its something you want doing, get it done. Its only hair, if it doesnt suit you wear a hat while it grows back - thats what I did.
I can understand what you are saying about it making you look butch, but providing you are happy with the way you look, try not to care what other people think - if people choose to judge you on the basis of your look, then its their problem not yours.
I personally think girls with short hair look just as beautiful if it suits them :)

That is really really good advice. Thank you so much. I think I will pop into my usual hair place and ask, "How short can I go?"
Yeah I really do have a chubby face... lemme insert a pic for reference, my hair is a little different now but this is my most recent pic:

Dunno, devilot, I'd have a hard time seeing it on you. I totally agree with Lau -- there are some women who can look incredibly good with a buzz cut. Actually, same for men. I really like your hair the way it is in the picture, but I totally know what you mean about having to worry about it getting messed up all the time. :(
But then, too, people look good when they're comfortable. If you buzzed your hair and you loved it, and it made you happy, that happiness would show on the outside and it would make you look good. So that's something to take into account too.

devilot76: I think you have already sort of decided what type of hairstyle you want but you may be a little hesitant about reactions from other people.
my advice: Do what you want to do and don't give a damn about what others think about you. Have fun and enjoy it ;-). It's your life and you can always use a little extra independence from the opinions of others.
cheers :)

Thanks for all the comments guys, er, people!
Topicolo: thanks for the well-meaning words, but I haven't really decided on a hairstyle yet. I just know that I would love something shorter than what I currently have but from everyone's helpful input I've broadened my idea of potential styles.
*Sniff* You guys are all so sweet! haha. I feel like I should gather you all up in a group hug... all this uber-supportive talk about being happy w/ your own self-image. Who needs meds or shrinks, when you got the MR community? ;)

buzz cut on a girl can be sexy. Natalie Portman looked really good with super-short hair. I know you might say "but she's Natalie Portman!" but I think she looked good even for her. ;)
I think you can definitely pull it off without looking "butch" but it depends on how you dress and maybe even more importantly, how you carry yourself.

Hey, devilot76, you don't have a chubby face! i think you'd look better than I did with really short hair, but the similarity between our face shapes is that we both have quite wide faces (I mean this in the nicest possible way, by the way!). And I found out that, oddly, people with wide faces suit wide haircuts. The reason that your haircut looks great (and it does) is because it's got quite a lot of hair at the sides, which you wouldn't have if you shaved it all orf.
I reckon a sorta chunky modern shortish cut with not too short hair at the sides would look great. Especially with some colour in it like in your pic! I found this picture on Google. I reckon it could actually be shorter than this, and it's a bit 'salony', but but it's a good example of how having short hair with a bit of length in the sides can still look good. And when my hair was this short it took about 2 seconds to style, and dried almost instantly.
Ooh, you've inspired me to cut my hair now. <Runs off to find scissors>

Your hair might be getting in your face because you have long bangs (when driving with the windows down, etc). Maybe try a cut with short bangs? Those haircuts can look really cute on asian girls. I don't think shaving your head would look good.
I'm asian myself and went the opposite direction you did. I had long hair in medical school because I just didn't have time to style it everyday. It was easier to just tie it back in a pony tail and not deal with it. I'm a doctor now so am back to short hair again. :p

If you go for the 1 cm or less trimmed cut, plz be careful when asking your boyfriend to cut it for you. Ten years back both my older sister and i had those cuts and we trimmed each-others hair.
One day in the bathroom when trimming away on my head she goes 'Woops'. I say 'What??'. She goes 'Nothing, i'll just finish this up, but i don't think i want my hair cut today'.
...
Good luck on deciding.

devilot76, have you considered Photoshopping (or having somebody Photoshop) your photo to see how you'd look with less or little hair? It's easier to undo with Photoshop than it is with scissors.

Man, but gay, so my advice might be helpful :) my mom just went through a phase like this-- decided her hair, which had been long for her whole life, was just TOO MUCH TO DEAL WITH. Chopped it down to an inch. i can empathize, i occasionally grow my hair out, but usually give up (i just cut my shoulder-length hair back to short). So anyway, OK. You sound like you're really focused on the idea of shaved/very close. Traditionally a shaved female head has denoted a lesbian or cancer patient, obviously that's what you're afraid of. But there's a couple of factors here. First, that stereotype (and most others related to "gay/straight") is quickly dying. In fact the last 2 women I've seen with totally shaved heads were both straight, I just don't think there's a line anymore (the same way, men can pay attention to their appearance and not be considered gay anymore). So I think it's not something to be too afraid of: the world is changing quickly. Now the second part is just the general, how will people react? Personally I've always loved that part. My hair is bleach-blonde now, like white, which I know does not please people at work (or some of my family). But it's what I wanted to do, and I love it! Life is short, I think in the long-run, you'll be happier for taking the risk...
so I want to see pictures, but I'm sure you'll look great :)

devilot76, have you considered Photoshopping (or having somebody Photoshop) your photo to see how you'd look with less or little hair? There's also this (http://en.infinisys.co.jp/product/cmimage_mac/index.shtml) bit of software you could try the trial version of – I've never used it myself so I can't vouch for whether it's any good or not, although the colours on the web page look very lifelike. ;)
In any case, I second MacDawg's request for an after pic to see what you decide on!

I'm sure I'm not the only one to be incredibly offended by this infantile, insensitive comment. Use your brain before you type.
I can't stand how everyone always has to be so poilitcally correct these days. The person obviously didn't mean it in a harsh way, they probably just meant a Chemo patient that loses their hair, and the only reason you guys get offended is because you think of it in a pestimistic way. I'm sure if the person wanted to mean it in a bad way, they could have said something like "you don't want to look like one of those ugly cancer patients" the person never said ugly. Its all in your head. Don't pounce on every little detail. Be honest, most people think of a cancer patient who takes chemo when they see a totally bald head, especially on a women. Its not good to stereotype, but its not realistic to always be politically correct on every nit pick detail. I don't mean for this to even turn into a argument over stereotypes or whether or not your offended.
just keep that in mind ;)

B) I'm hetero
Damn.
As a queer chick, I know of plenty women who have shaved heads. Most of the ones I know are queer since that's just how my little circle of friends go but not all of the ones I've seen around are butch, hell, many are straight and I suppose this is a more recent thing than not since while in the past women with really short of shaved heads were more often than not dykes, its not the case as of now, especially here in the Bay. So while you may notice a bit more attention from the lesbian side of the spectrum if you were to crop it short or shave it off completely, you probably won't be read so much as one because of the wide range of orientations a woman with a shaved head has nowadays.
Good luck,
-Ani

Duff-Man says....well, I think you look very nice now, and am not sure a short cut will suit you very well. I think you should perhaps pay less attention to this myth about the "perfect hair-do" and if your hair gets blown about in open car just give it the quick comb....many guys - myself included - prefer a more "natural" look over the sometimes phoney looking made-up stuff that is all too common...I just think it makes people look like they are trying too hard. You've got a nice, friendly and inviting face...so let your hair be natural (although I do like the coloured streaks!) and don't worry so much about it....oh yeah!

The great thing about this decision is that it is not permanent. If you don't like it, grow it back! Wear hats in the meantime ;)
Personally, I (female) got my hair cut pretty short for practical reasons (I'm a cook, and it gets really hot in the kitchen.
I have always envied guys that have a buzz cut. Its easy, you can cut it yourself and its much cooler in the summer. I say go for it

heheh, cut it short... why not??? I remembered last summer when I was in London [Victoria station], I saw this advertising [don't know what it was advertising] but it has a girl with short hair, I joked with my friends that maybe I should get my hair cut short, when we get back to our hotel [Victoria Park Plaza, that's about 5 minutes of deciding], he cut my hair!!! [with my another 2 girls standing behind directing] 25cm... gone... It felt weird in the first 3 days [the maid was all astounded to see me with short hair and a bunch of hair in the bin] but I got used to it and no way I'm growing my hair out... :D you only need to comb it once a day, really... But of course if you are cutting it THAT short, there's no need for combing at all :D all the better...

call me crazy but there are hairstyles out there that do not require much time. my hair is not one of those but I don't mind taking care of myself either.
your picture showed a hairstyle that really shouldn't take but a few minutes to style {{shurgs}} I don't see what the big deal is personally.
(for fairness my picture is in my profile, and it takes about 10 minutes to style, considering I wear no makeup that is fine with me)
it's your head, do what you want. however, I'll say that if you are concerned about what people think of you than surely you can spend a few minutes primping to keep that worry at bay.
a shaved head might be a major regret after you did it... very few people can pull that off and not look downright lousy.

go for a suedehead in the 4 - 8 range... that way you can still punk it up with some fudge.
I'm leaning heavily toward this option. Either being able to spike it vertically or sorta, brushed forward to a point, like a faux-hawk or something. Since it's a holiday today (in the States) I'll be looking for photos that I can bring to my stylists on Tuesday and we'll go from there.
http://www.upn.com/shows/top_model4/show/ep01/photos/1/14.jpgI'm thinking similar to the chick closer to the camera.
I've had really really long hair before, and that's a bit much as well. The thing about my hair is that it's really really thick and quite coarse so it really takes awhile to style it, and tame it. And it's so thick that if I were to just put it up in a ponytail (i.e., wait forever to grow it long) within half an hour the hair tie goes from the crown of my head to the nape of my neck. :o
And no worries, iblue, no hostility felt on my side. I really do appreciate, all the replies. Shanks everybody. I'll report back w/ an update once I decide.
I used to have long dark hair and a beard, then one day cut it really short, dyed it blond and shaved, it was well worth it…..’cause the bank had video cameras. :D

In case anyone cares, I have decided to get my hair shaved off. My appointment is tomorrow, Monday. The only reason I would not do so at this point is if a loved one threatened suicide or if my stylist has another really short short short and low maintenance 'do that he'd rather I get. But that is doubtful as he probably doesn't even remember me and could care less.
Anyway, if any of you care to know my reasoning behind such a drastic change, you could read up here (http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=devilot76).

Hey, just read this. Big kudos. Now, it doesn't matter what it looks like anyway, does it? Please let us know how you get on (with the stuff on the website that is). The shaving head sounds like a good way to 'reset' yourself. (Didn't the Bauhaus or something shave all its students heads when they started? After that they could do what they wanted, but it was just a way of starting afresh.)
Anyway, much respect.

1. Joining the military, or any activity that requires it, sports included.

3. Breakup of a long relationship.

Smaller heads can pull off the look better than larger heads. Yul Brynner looked hot. Telly Savalas looked like a big thumb. Sinead and Natalie Portman have small round heads...
My girlfriend has a condition that leaves her with little hair and it's quite patchy, so she shaves it off and wears a wig. No matter what I say, she won't go around without the wig because 1) her face is round and larger (though she's BEAUTIFUL!!) and 2) she thinks she looks like a cancer patient.
Some stereotypes play with the bald head well weather it's the lesbian thing or the punk thing, but when you see a bald woman in common clothes, you inevitably wonder if the bald head is by choice or not.
Like it's been said, it'll grow back!
I've had my hair between 1/4" and 1/2" for years (losing it!) and now my girlfriend wants me to grow it out like Ben Franklin!! I'd do anything for love, but I won't do.... (well okay, I'm trying it...) :D

Looking forward to seeing the results - I like the short hairstyle above more than the entirely shaved/v short buzz idea. I've had mine that short in the past and it was fun although quite dramatic.
I understand the reasons you gave but if you're trying to change things that dramatically, you need to be very sure of what you're doing. I know you're not doing it for looks and to encourage you to keep on with the rest of your goals... but when you're changing so many things so dramatically, I think I'd go for 'major change' but not something that's so drastic that I might hate it so much that I got depressed when I looked in the mirror and decided what was the point of changing anything...
4pm PST - guess, I'll see it in the morning, my time! Good luck! ;)

Haha, that photoshopping you did was awesome, especially that apple tattoo. *grimace* It sure won't look glamorous! :p Thanks for asking about my bf. He was one of the first people to really say "go for it." I'm blessed because he is so sweet and understanding, his only concern regarding the hair is that he doesn't want me to feel awful about my own appearance.
And applespider, you bring up a superb point, but I've spoken w/ my bf about that and the bottom line is, I will be okay regardless of how thrilled I am (or am not) about my hair. Hey, I've had other embarrassing or not-so-lovely 'dos and I'm still doing okay, right?
jayscheuerle, although I'm sorry about your girlfriend's condition, I might just end up asking you (really, your gf via you) about wigs because I like some variety. Besides, vniow is right, more and more women are opting for shorter and shorter 'dos, maybe eventually, your gf will feel comfortable w/out the wigs.
Thanks for the well-wishing! Just gonna brush my hair one last time before I head out the door. ;)

Looking forward to the result...
I'm losing all my hair anyway, so I've thought of just getting it all in one whack myself. But, being an overweight guy, I'm not too thrilled about the look for me. :(

I looked at your website.
Light blue text over a white apple background graphic.
Arrgh, my eyes, my eyes!
Sorry i actually couldnt read much of what you had to say.
But go for it. As a male, I've had a couple of girlfriends with either shaved heads, or number 1 or 2 buzz cuts. Wonderfully sexy :)
And who cares if you look dykey? You've got a wonderful boyfriend hanging right off your arm.
As a tip from someone who tends to spend long periods of time depressed and not doing much, try tidying up, try getting rid of the clutter in your life. I used to be a bit of a hoard er. Getting rid of 90% of my possessions has helped me no end!
Finally have a think about what you really want to do in life. Trust your gut, not your head. Give yourself a rest from your career goals, stop trying to prove something to other people, and go travelling or do something creative.
You said you spend too much time on macrumors... Try a tv / computer free week. Yes, a whole week without TV or a computer:) It's hard at first but helps peace of mind amazingly...

The photoshopped version looks good. You have my blessings devilot :).
A hair style that says something is better than any hair style that doesn't. And even though you are afraid it will say the wrong thing ("I'm gay", "I'm butch", etc.), I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how understanding people will be given the reason you did it was comfort. It takes courage and self confidence to shave your head for comfort and people will recognize that. :)

My thoughts when i've shaved my head (well except the last time) was that it will grow back. I did the last time as well so...
Anyway sun screen is good.
I personally prefer women with long hair, but I do have some fond memories of kissing the fine stubble on top of a woman's head after she had shaved it. And other things later.
A shaved head makes showering in the morning much faster.
Be careful of your head shape though. My head is kinda concave in places, there is probably some klingon back in my family tree someplace and it doesn't necessarily look good.
A friend of mine has his head shaved but he has a rather distracting bump on the top of his head.

buzz cut on a girl can be sexy. Natalie Portman looked really good with super-short hair. I know you might say "but she's Natalie Portman!" but I think she looked good even for her. ;)
I think you can definitely pull it off without looking "butch" but it depends on how you dress and maybe even more importantly, how you carry yourself.
I read the thread and realize that you had said it was a go, but just to through in a few other examples, either to help or hinder as you like:
I realize these can be viewed as aweful examples because they are "beautiful stars" but examples they are.
http://www.circlethought.com/forum_images/KeiraKnightley-TheJacket-UKScr.jpghttp://www.circlethought.com/forum_images/starwarsiiiberlin107xg.jpg
Quite obviously the hairstyles are different, however the shortness on KK looks very cute but I think KK would look strange bald. NP on the other hand looks surprisingly cute bald IMO, perhaps it is just me and QCass though :p
Edit: It will be interesting to see how that PS version looks in comparison to real life.

Thanks, a lot of your ideas are ones that I wanted to implement in my life. I've always been on the lazier side so I must say, I have to take babysteps! But I spent a little over a day without turning on a single computer (of course in that time it seems like the whole MR world exploded. hee. j/k I just missed all the hoopla around 10.4.2) But just a little over a day away from the internet and honestly, I slept so much better last night. Well, here is a picture. In fact, my hairstylists would not allow me to go Natalie Portman shaved... My mom still filpped and both of my parents are avoiding me (which is somewhat nice but still is a bit of a bummer). My bf wishes I would just shave it all off, but I think I'll let this settle for a week or so before contemplating shaving it off. Thanks again for all the supportive peoples out there! Thanks! I own contacts but haven't worn them in almost 2 years. I only need glasses for driving/ reading the board at the front of class, etc. But, I think I should start wearing them more since my eyesight is getting worse. As for how I like it so far; it's interesting, even though I don't think I look my "best" I feel more confident. Not to mention, I got this cut at just the right time-- the temp. in fahrenheit for this week is well into the 80's.
But I am having a hard time adjusting to feeling a breeze ruffle/ go through my hair and automatically assuming that there are creepy crawlies having a party. <shudder>

Congrats on your new style.
I had a mustache for a while, and decided to shave it off one fall. I shaved half of it off, took a photo of myself for fun, and was about to shave off the other half when I got distracted. Then the doorbell rang; a friend had come to visit. We talked with him for a while. Only later did I realize that I had been talking to him with half a mustache, and he didn't say anything about it!

Believe it or not, my hair is dyed black at the moment-- I have brownish hair naturally (my mom's hair is a fairly light brown). Eh, I've done blue and reds and plummy violets (not at the same time, mind you) as well as varying shades of brown. Color is very high maintenance and I'm trying to cut down on the superfluous. But I agree, there's an inner voice crying for frosted tips or some highlights to break up the solid dark.
I must say I am completely, completely taken aback by the responses thus far (at least on MR). I was just pleased that it didn't come out as horridly as I had prepared for; much less, positive reactions! <shock> I'm totally flattered and I feel all giddy. Aw shucks, hyuck! :o
Pony-tail thingy? (scrunchie IIRC) Might work better. I'm not sure what IIRC is, but if I just go by scrunchie-- actually, my hair is so thick that for pony tails I need two elastic hair ties, so, a scrunchie wouldn't cut it. Thanks for the suggestion though.

The new 'do looks very good. And I'm going to second the motion that it just screams for some frosted tips or something. :D but I'm biased towards colorful hair.
A few years ago I went from hair past my shoulder blades to as short as yours is now (also dyed black, but w/high lights). 'twas a bit traumatic at first, but I love the freedom of spending just 2 or 3 minutes max on my hair in the morning. And dyeing short hair isn't that much of a pain (an hour or so every few weeks depending on how often I change high light colors).

Not the case for you ;), but I would bet it wouldn't matter what you looked like, being female and a MR member is all a lot of guys here want. Oh well.
Demi Moore, never cared for her all that much. Not sure why, same thing with Jolie, everyone loves her but I just don't care.
Only meant well for sure. I guess I dug myself a hole on that post.

I knew you meant nothing by it, that is why I said I think you meant well. I would bet no harm was taken, so no worries.
There are a lot of times I have wanted to post some rather interesting comments but have held back (not all in relation to females), however they come out once and a while. We all were thinking it ;)

Be sure to let your fan club (us) know if you decide to do anything else to your hair, like color, hilites or anything else. Computer geeks like us love to ooogle beautiful women. :)
Might be time to consider some other changes in your life since you have this new found rush of energy and confidence.

For guys, I can only think of 3 major reasons why they'd want to shave their heads.
1. Joining the military, or any activity that requires it, sports included.
2. Thinning hair
3. Breakup of a long relationship.
Well, good luck to you. Please post some pics!
ps. What does your bf think of this?
On your third point, are you just making that up or is that what most guys do? After the end of a two+ year relationship with my girlfriend, I did cut my hair from relatively long to really short.
I think that your hair in both pictures looked great. The first one definitely is a classier look, but the second picture seems to make you look younger (but the lighting was better in the second). Your new 'do looks great. :)

I just recently shaved my head, not clean bald, but very short, and I love it. The best decision I've ever made, however, if I were concerned about what people thought, I never would have done it. It free's you!! I'm telling you, do it, you'll love the results!!

I have been shaving my head (or when I am lazy - using 0 or 1 clippers) for about two or three years now.
I inherited my Mom's baby fine head of hair. So longer does not seem to work for me, even if I did not have a receding hairline. to avoid the "chemo-look" I keep my goatee going but clipped close (a 4 on the dial on the old Panasonic trimer) - grey hairs and all!
Personally I find a real turn-on when I have my head totally shaved. The feel is nothing that can be described and still be posted on MR.
My current job position is giving me more freedom to do what I want. Next week while I am in SF, I am thinking about getting a double piercing in both of my ears. I had a single piercing years ago, but my jobs did not allow for such an outward expression. So that one has closed up.
Some may say that I am having a delayed "mid-life crisis", turning 47 next week. I look at it as that I have been living to the expectations of my employers. The camera shop that I work for now has some that pass the boundaries that I would never consider for being in the public eye for sales.
The only concern is that I have been the poster child for conformity in the last five years there, some may look at my recent trials and the "new" me as as acting out. Not a reflection of who I have always wanted to be.

So true, oddest part is that I can't stand to have her on my desktop, kind of weirds me out for some reason  Other women back there are fine, but her eyes just **** with me in an o-so good/bad way, can't stand it :)
I have been shaving my head (or when I am lazy - using 0 or 1 clippers) for about two or three years now.
I usually alternate between medium/short hair as the seasons change, not because I am cheap, well partially for that, but because it just makes sense to me. In the spring/summer I usually do a zero-clippers shave, roughly every other week so there are some sprouts but it never gets long. Then in the fall/winter I usually let it out a bit (then I have to trim so it doesn't look unruly) because it makes things a little warmer than bald for the cold weather here in Michigan. I really don't like my head of hair though, so I might try to keep it short year-round this year and see how winter treats me.

looks good, truth be told I was worried about the end results, but it works :)
I agree about color... a few red streaks or something here and there.
and it's not THAT tough to maintain color, an hour or so every couple weeks at most just isn't that big of a time sacrifice in my opinion. FWIW <- guess that one? ;) (for what it's worth)
you look great though, and what matters is that you are happy with it and it's easier for you. enjoy those convertibles and hair messing activities.

HAHAHA, thanks Canada. I hope you won't be too offended if I don't decide to use it, but I find myself curiously drawn to yours. BBBBBut, I gotta love me some Emily Strange.:D
By the way, my hair is AWESOME for the crazy heat waves in CA the last couple of weeks. Whew, it feels so much cooler.

I love the Emily Strange avatar!
I had this one in mind for you for some reason http://img336.imageshack.us/img336/8704/ipodme1kh.gif (but smaller of course) I don't know why it made me think of you (when you were talking about what avatar to use last night)

Ooh that is awesome... when I get home (to my precious macs) I'll be sure to keep all of these (along w/ notes to thank both CanadaRAM and iBlue, should I use the images).
Interestingly, when my hair is really long, I do put them up in Chun-Li buns, similar to the ones in that iPod pic. I'm a fan of having my hair outta my face. :p

I'll size it and make it with a red background for you, to keep with the red black theme :)

that should fit. I love the one you chose, and CanadaRam did good, just want to give you options, and keep within "theme" ;) that is, if you want to use it. (and I won't be offended if you don't)
BTW, I used to do my hair that way too. (how funny!) :) if you notice the file name is "iPodme" (iPodmeRed when I altered the background) but that is because it reminded me of myself, hence iPodMe.
congrats on getting a 'tar
