I’m sorry if this has already been discussed before but...

We know that the Intel chip is on it’s way in a year or so but what can we expect to see before that as far as the G4 and G5 are concerned. Well we see updates to the Powerbook/ibook? How about the desktops/imac? Anyone have any ideas of what is coming in the pipeline?

Well, let me pull out my crystal ball ;)

G4-
-dual core
-faster fsb (200MHz+)
-more L2 cache
-faster clock speed (2GHz?)

G5-
-dual core
-more L2 cache (1MB per core)
-faster clock speed (finally 3GHz+ ???)

MS-powered 8-ball

G4 -- Most likely the 7448

G5 -- Maybe the PPC970GX

All depends on how far each IBM and Freescale got in the process, likely IBM is going to kill anything that isn't in the final pre-production phase.

Freescale will likely release the 7448 and wait on the dual core while they see what happens to the G4 after Apple exits the market.

Good chance that the market might not be big enough to keep the G4 moving forward without Apple.

PowerMacs WILL hit 3Ghz before the switch to Intel chips. There's still a 2 year gap. I think we'll hit dual core G5's as well.
