how do you send and receive faxes on os x?

i only have os 9.0 on my rather old machine and this is something someone i know is trying to figure out on a newer mac

Get FaxSTF. Works natively in X. Comes with most macs... maybe consumer ones.

If you don't want a dedicated fax line, you can get faxes free from some online places with your own dedicated phone number... don't remember the name though.
