Basically going ot be obsolete within a year or two, or could it last me 4 years tops?

Could last you 4 years easily....Unless you want to play games....
Just max the RAM out and you have got you a machine for 3-4 years if not more...

It already is obsolete, but that doesn't mean that it won't be able to last you several years. What it comes down to is what you'll be using it for. If its just basic word processing, music, Internet, etc. then you'll be fine.

Just remeber: computer don't become slower over the time, it's new software that has a lot of new features require faster machines

Figure I'd use it for iTunes, AdiumX, Firefox/Safari, Office, and ocassionally some emulators for old SNES games.

Practically, that has the same impact. It's like saying that cars don't become slower over the years, it's the streets that become steeper ;-) The user doesn't care WHY he has to wait longer until his work is finished ;-)

I would hold out for at least a 1.33 GHz PowerBook with Superdrive.
That would hold you for a long time and be a much better machine.

Where can I find a list of battery life comparisons for the all iBooks and Powerbooks?
