What do you prefer performance or size in a notebook?

Both, I have the PowerBook 12"... :p
I would probably say size. I don't do enough intensive apps to warrent the size for the performance...

Size. I have a desktop for the intensive stuff. :D

A bit of both I suppose. Hence why I have a PowerBook :D. Weight is a definite factor if you are going to be lugging it around on public transport (like me).
I use my G5 at home for more intensive stuff - the PowerBook goes to work mainly for surfing and downloading on the company's network :D

As of now size since I work with Flash for some cartoons and space is always welcome for pallets. You can see sig. for the rest but at the time this was a must (iBook) for school and I couldn't afford a 17" or 15" PB.

Size, mostly, as long the performance isn't too bad. Like Aussie and Ham said, not such a big deal with Macs. :D
Although, hmm...so the 15 and 17" PB are now above fully twice the clockspeed of my first round iBook G4.... If either of the 12" units gets a >1.6GHz G4 before Mactels, I might seriously consider getting another one. But yes, notice the supreme lack of interest in getting a 15" or 17" to accomplish that. :)
I walk to my department building every day with my laptop, and I've found it never bothers me to have it on my back. One of the few laptops I've owned for which I can say this!

Bit of both, and a screen big enough to fit everything on :D
And i'm not a small guy, so the 15in feels pretty small and light to me, not to mention it weighs less than my old 300Mhz iBook  lol

12" Powerbook user ;)
was tempted by the price of an iBook but you lose power there. as for my preference... and because im awkward id have to say i would NEVER get a laptop bigger than 12" until im in work. this is perfect for uni travelling :)
similarly i would not get anything weaker than a 1.5ghz G4 (or a 3.2Ghz P4, mactel  )
besides ive got the power in my desktop replacement laptop. tis VERY powerful but the battery dosnt last long at all. big screen, big strength, big everything. but its portable to the extent you can have it in any room in the house, but nothing more.

depends on the application

Duff-Man says....my Powerbook is my "second" computer so I don't need the top-of-the-line performance...but the 12" models are a bit too small for my personal preference so I find the 15" models to be an ideal combo of size/performance and when I replace my 'book it'll be with another 15" model.....oh yeah!

I want the density vs. power dilemma solved so we don't have to think about this tradeoff any more :p

I prefer both size/weight and performance :)

The same, here, with a good balance of performance with size, so the AlPB 15" is ideal for what I'm needing. On the side, aussie_geek, glad you got your avatar up and running. I'd swear that looks more like Kirk, though :D

I have a 12" PB, I considered the ibook, but the overall loss of performance, little extra size and weight, and the abscence of a DVD writer clicnched it for me.
I find the performance of my powerbook adequate for what I use it for. I do some less intense calculations on the go occasionally, otherwise net, email, office, photoshop (small - med), and illustrator. For more involved calculations at school I have access to various machines including a 20 node SunFire machine for intense calculations.
I guess what I'm trying to get at in a very round-about way is that I would prefer size over performance in a notebook.
C'mon 11.1" widescreen PB with 1.8 gHz P-M...

For me it's all about the OS. I do have a 15" PowerBook G4 1.67 GHz so I do have the fastest OS X notebook, and I like the size - so both I guess?

size, i leave the speed to the desktops

I would really like both...
I love the size and weight of my 12" PB (though a 13"ish HD widescreen model appeals), but would love the extra features of the bigger PB models (backlit keyboard, PCMCIA card, Firewire 800 etc).
I don't have any technical knowledge to base this on (so correct me if I'm wrong) but some of this stuff (FW800 for example) wouldn't be a challange to put into a 12", so I assume that it's kept out to differentiate the models...

I think size is more important to me than speed. Although I like a bigger screen, hence the 15" PowerBook. But it is still about half the size of my friends 15" HP, I would NEVER buy one of those.
I like size. Still wish i had gotten the 12" over the 15".
Though I "needed" 64MB of vidRAM at the time. Oh well, I feel my next computer will be the 12" in 2007.
