Are you saying that individual contributors of this forum can't setup a poll? It would be good to have that option. :)

they used to be able to, and probably will be able to again in the near future. however, once a month or so a few people go poll crazy and it forces arn to shut down the option for a while

shrek, complain to the people who post all the ridiculous polls to begin with....

The option was there for people to learn through polls, and it turned into a game for some of the more childish people on the boards.

At another fourms i post at they created a never ending topic.
It basically goes like so, one person posts a question, you post your answer and also post a question.
So far that topic has 960 posts... LOL!

There is a thread kind of like that. Dignan created "short movies" with has been going strong for a long time. I'm not sure what the post count is but it is up there.;)

Suprisingly, yes it is.

It's the 'alien abductions in USA' thread which has gone waaaaaay off topic.

A few months ago... Someone (actually i think someone did it and then another person simultaneously copied it) whom i don't remember posted these polls constantly comparing products and having you vote... probably a dozen polls and then a poll that tied the winner together... by like the 10th poll, we were pretty sick and tired of it. i don't even remember what the winner was declared as.

Any thread that is just a continuous posting fest is usually shut down immediately. The short film thread has stayed on topic, but has been around for months, mostly because a few members who keep going back to it and resurrecting it when something comes up that's of interest. But it will go days with nothing. The avatar thread is a simillar type.

Yeah... let's PLEASE not start long threads for the sake of a long thread.

I actually dislike the "Word association" and "Longest thread ever" sort of threads. Those will be moved to wasteland.

As for the other long threads... as long as they remain somewhat topical, it's fine...

as dukestreet said... posting for the sake of posting is discouraged.
