Just wondering what a NEW 14" iBook would compare to in PC terms in speed. Thanks

Well a 1.42GHz PowerPC G4 ~ 2.3/2.4GHz Pentium 4 - but it depends on what you are going to do with it (ie- photoshop runs faster on a computer with a PowerPC processor in it vs. one with a X86 chip.)

Wow, so a 1.42 G4 is like a 2ghz+ P4

Well a little faster than 2Ghz...but yes, the G4 packs a whallop for running at reduced clock speeds (its called the MHz Myth). Don't worry an iBook G4 will provide you with plenty of performance! :)

I just ordered my 14" in my profile. When playing with a similar model at the Apple Store, I felt faster at opening apps and rendering webpages then my brothers Dell Inspiron 8600 / 1.4GHz Centrino / 512MB / 40GB 5400RPM / NVidia 5200 32MB. My brothers computers takes close to 20 seconds to launch iTunes, the iBook only like 5 or so.
Anybody know how the Centrino compares to the PowerPC G4??

The higher end newer Pentium M (centrino lineup) processors spank the G4 though. Try a 2.13ghz Pentium M and you'll see the difference. BUT remember they are still two seperate processors.
