Hi guys (and gals!),

I was just wondering if somebody would be so kind as to post main differences between ordering from the APPLE STORE vs. MacMall or Powermax, or General Cyberenetics, or even Tekserve and CompUSA.

I know that APpleStore charges tax (at least here in NYC) -- and that's sad.. but what redeems them?

MacMall sounds good - for $2999, a free printer and all that good stuff. :)

Thanks very much,

Ljova

MacMall makes it sound like you are getting stuff free, but if you
read the small text then you will son figure out that you have to
pay a $40 instillation fee for RAM. I would rather buy the RAM for
$25 and install it myself, thank you. And they give you a 'free'
printer, but you have to pay for the print cartriges that come with
it or some crap like that. But MacMall ain't all that bad. Don't
forget MacZone and MacWarehouse. They can have good deals
sometimes.

After checking all the regular options, you might want to check out www.generalcybernetics.com/apple - its backtothemacs site. Somehow he manages to get the best prices/deals.

Well, I can speak for GC as I am the sales manager there. We do not charge to install free ram, nor do we charge sales tax, nor do we charge handling fees. Shipping is whatever the cost is. We have deals that generally are the best price.

We are small, and when people buy from us, I personally oversee every order that is in the system so that I can catch mistakes if there are any, and make sure the customer is satisfied.

Ps Thanks for the props Duke ;)

Hey, so do you guys offer the 1GB-RAM model as well? Really nice of you to bundle AppleCare (iCare? <g>) as part of your offer.

I don't know if you are referring to the Apple Store online or the Apple Store retail outlets. If you aren't already considering, definitely look online. I believe you may get away without paying any tax. I don't know for sure in NY - I just moved to CA where we get charged tax on Net purchases. Kind of takes away some of the fun.

Anyway, I bought my last two Macs from the online Apple Store and have been very satisfied with quick shipping and attention to detail (I customize everything and buy 3rd party gear as well). My most recent purchase was just a month ago. I got a $400 dollar rebate on my display and doubled my RAM for $40 (from 512 to 1GB). All in all, a very sweet deal.

I would absolutely choose the AppleStore online before any catalogue, and those used to be my main venue for machines.

Hope this helps, and enjoy your new machine!

I only wish General Cyberenetics would cell other things, like external hard drives. I would to be giving them my money. :D Also after MWSF I will be getting an iPod from you guys :)

if you buy from the online apple store, you do indeed pay the sales tax for whatever state you have your order shipped to... so in ny, that'd suck.

as for GC selling hard drives, i'm pretty sure you can get them through GC. just gotta ask the man himself.

This site is so helpful, I can't stress it enough:

www.dealmac.com

They have prices for everything that has to do with mac, and they
are updated constantly. I can't believe that I forgot about them
when I posted the 1st time. A very helpful site.

Hey, we sell everything. About the only thing we cannot get is avid systems and Formac monitors. Drop me an email and let me know what you want.

;)

Thanks jello. We do have the 1GB PowerBooks BTW.
