Ok, I just ordered a new Hitachi Travelstar 7k60 for my Powerbook, so I figure I can sell off my old hard drive. I thought about using it as a portable drive, but I already have two externals... soooo... it's up for grabs!
Here's the skinny:
This drive is labeled 48GB, and it came out of my Powerbook Ti. For the past few months it has begun making more noise than usual - usually clicking, and occassionally a "clunk" type sound will happen, primarily when it's reading or writing heavily. I've repaired the drive by hooking it up externally to my Cube and running Disk Utility, but it found nothing wrong with it. I'm assuming it's on it's got some sort of physical hardware problem, so I'm only asking $40 shipped for it. That's really pretty cheap for a 48GB 5400rpm 2.5" drive!
So far I haven't noticed any performance changes unless I'm running a lot of windows at the same time, or reading/writing a lot of things. I'm also running this on 256MB of RAM right now too, though, so I don't know if that's causing slowups, but the noises happen either way. I've also run XBench, and the scores were pretty much the same as I've always gotten, so that just reinforces my belief that it's probably some physical problem with the drive.
Anyways, if you're interested at all, drop me a PM with any questions or whatnot. I'll add up pictures once my Cube finishes encoding some video, which will most likely be tomorrow morning!
Thanks!
Edit: Oh yeah, and the drive will be sold completely clean - there's not going to be anything installed on it, sorry.
