View Full Version : Crooked/Bent iBook screen - how to fix it?

I just got a used iBook G3 600 off of eBay, and it runs great except that the screen housing is crooked - leaning just enough to the left to mess with my head.

Does anyone know what I can do to fix it? Like adjust something with the hinge or something like that?

Difficult to say. Have you got any photos you could post? :)

I don't have any right now but I can take a few later.

It's only obvious if it's open, and it looks fine from most angles. The left side is probably like a eighth to a quarter inch lower if your looking at it from keyboard while it's open.

Can the screen be moved into the correct position? Is it loose?

It doesn't seem loose. It closes nicely and latches fine. I tried lightly bending it and I could get it close, but I didn't want to push it since I don't know what I'm messing with.

OK. Here are some pix.

I know it hardly shows in the pictures, but I swear I'm not crazy.

Also, when it's closed, the left/top (lower) side of the screen is firm against the body of the iBook - but the right side has a little give in it. Kind of like it's bent or something. I took some pictures of this, but it didn't show up.

Ah the iceBook, my favourite iBook design, it just looks so much better compared to my G4 iBook, the translucent case, the darker, more metallic finish to the palmrest and surround. Not a fan of the keyboard though, it's my only gripe.

I dropped my iBook from about2 or 3 feet and bent the screen a tad on the left hand side, not so much that I notice but it's not quite flush anymore when it closes and for a little while I had problems with the trackpad button getting stuck but a quick swipe around the gap with a playing card fixed it and after about a week I haven't had any problems. Yours looks like a good system though, I hate to say "just get used to it" but you've stated it's not a massive problem.

So just enjoy your iBook, it's a mighty fine machine.

That would surely bother me too.
