For people that have no idea where Rolla is, its about an hour and a half southwest of St. Louis and is a small, boring hick town with nothing more than a Wal-Mart

Freshman at Parsons school of Design in NYC (part of the New School). I haven't had any classes yet, but I've moved into my dorm and so far everything looks great. I live on union square, my room mate is nice, my suite mates are nicer, people are open minded, I get free tai chi classes (:D), $5 movie tickets, and I'm in the greatest city of the world!
I'm definitely excited about the upcoming year. :D

Aww, don't feel bad, I spent five years at Harvard. It is amazing how much culture is squeezed into the Cambridge/Somerville area (and you have to admit, for a BBQ in New England, Red Bones rocks!). After leaving, I missed everything (even the panhandlers and the never-ending stream of tourists asking "where's the 'Harvard' sign?") almost immediately.

After about one year, my wife and I finally discovered Red Bones. It is surprisingly good! I go through significant periods of BBQ and Mexican food (both real and Tex-Mex) withdrawal...Red Bones cures one of those issues. Forest Cafe nearly cures the other...but not quite. Gonna load up on the Tex-Mex this weekend when we visit our folks back in Houston.
Aside from the cold, Cambridge/Somerville is fine. BUT, my wife and I aren't really "city" people. Even when I was at UT, we lived 30-45 mins from downtown Austin, out on Lake Travis. Going from a 1000 sq ft apartment on the lake to a 550 sq ft apartment with no yard or green thing of any kind is enough to make most folks grumpy.
I did learn very quickly to avoid the statue of "John Harvard" -- that place is always crawling with tourists...
None of this is dissuading me from applying for the PhD program here though...good faculty...awesome library...a lot of great students.

Oh, I'm aware of the spice. I thought "Curry College" was a nickname of a Uni in America somewhere. Had no idea it was the name of the actual school. ;)
