Check out www.craigslist.org but be sure to read their policy. They do not offer the same level of buyer protection as ebay by a long shot. But I've seen some very good prices for ibooks. Lower than ebay.

I saw fairly cheap ($500 for 800mHz) G3 iBooks on www.macofalltrades.com, but I have no idea if it is a reputable site. I'd look on eBay.

They are. I sold them my QS 800 and bought a 550mhz P-Book that I gave to my dad.

Just spend a few extra hundred and get a new iBook.

Just spend a few extra hundred and get a new iBook.

BUT some people do not have the extra $499 for a new one.

eBay
at least in the UK i think eBay is very often very expensive, i've seen people pay more for second hand stuff that for the same article new (not for macs but for photo equipment)

for $849

I ordered a dual 533MHz G4 tower from them a year ago, and it came specc'd better than ordered (512MB RAM instead of 256 as listed, Radeon 7500 instead of GeForce2MX as listed, a PCI SCSI card was included that I didn't order). The price was better other resellers.

They manage to keep prices low by having a small staff (I seriously think it's just a couple guys, or at least that's the impression I got dealing with them), but so far I haven't heard anything really negative about them.

Personally I don't trust ebay, but it's definitely the place with the best deals - as well as bad deals and scams. To be fair a lot of people have good luck shopping on ebay - but the resellers usually are better about refunds, guarantees etc.

www.techrestore.com

Awesome site, extremely friendly people. Sign up for their newsletter, which emails you specials every week. You can often get a g3 iBook for under $300.

They have some good prices on some nice, used Macs.
