View Full Version : Two New Will Ferrell Switch Ads

MacRumors
Nov 25, 2002, 04:23 PM
Apple Posted (http://www.apple.com/switch/ads/will/) two new "Switch" ads on their website today. The two new ads feature Will Ferrell as Santa Claus.

Santa and Lawyers (http://www.apple.com/switch/ads/will/will_santa_lawyer.html)
Santa's iPod (http://www.apple.com/switch/ads/will/will_santa_ipod.html)

Will Ferrell was also in another humorous switch ad featured (http://technojunkie.org/berniec/ferrell_switch.html) during the MWNY 2002 Keynote.

I think they're hilarious, though, I dont think Apple will show them on television, the didin't even post the other will farrel ad, even though alot of people asked for it.

I dont know though, maybe it would do well to show apple's humorous side...

I almost laughed my ass off at those commercials of the PC software making movies, I forget which vendor, maybe dell

I dont buy into it, but the commercials were funny, apple could use a a dose of public humor

esspecially with will farrel

I think the more switch ad's the better, even if they are not so serious as the ones created previously.
That and I love SNL and think that Will is as funny as an encredibly long program that get's X amount of errors because there no semi colon :)

I never really thought he was that funny until I saw the switch ad he did for MacWorld. That was actually kinda funny. I do like the iPod one (even if Windows gave me an error, and I had to reload the page. Stupid M$), the other one was okay. I used to think he was trying to hard, but watching SNL re-runs I see he was just working with what he had. I mean come-on, the cheerleader thing was just sad, and got old very quickly.

He was just starting to get funny with GW, not to mention the switch ad (they should have shown it on SNL) and that small part in "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" (that movie was hilarious, bad language aside).

Then he up and leaves SNL when it seemed to be getting good again.

Ah well, luck to him. Hope he does some more joke switch ads. I wonder if he really does use a Mac? Probably.

Great stuff...glad he's still working. ;)

I doubt they'll be on TV, but damn they're great for us Mac fans! :D

They should so run those ads on TV. Especially the Santa & Lawyers Ad...

Two words: Celebrity Jeopardy. :D

I always thought he was great. He was one of my favorite SNL actors and it was really depressing to see him leave the show. It just hasn't been quite the same.

These commercials are great (especially love the "ass handed to him" bit.) And no one could forget the porn actor! I hope they do air 'em.

I forgot about that one.

His Alex Trebek and Darrell Hammond's Sean Connery were great together. He played a good straight man. I think it was just the cheerleader sketches and some of the early stuff that bugged me. I stopped watching for awhile the season after Phil Hartman died (he was my favorite). I caught some of the reruns, and the early ones with the new cast weren't that funny.

I still think he came into his own on the George Bush Jr. bits - those were funny.

I think he's funnier when he isn't trying so hard.

I don't know...I usually like dry and absurd humor, but...I did not laugh. The santa lawsuit thing is kind of amusing, the ipod playlist has potential, but I somhow expect him to come up with something hillarious and then the spot just flattens out. Oh well, I do like the fact that those switch ads have even less to do with the actual apple products than what we got so far. Come to think of it, the image of a disillusioned, sarcastic guy fits apple pretty well. And seeing a 'highend' 1.25Ghz Powermac on TV would just be too depressing... yes, I am bitter...

Happy holidays !

Just right click and download as a quicktime movie. And I love the commercials.

thanks, but that requires quicktime pro (and i don't feel like shelling out $30 so i can download a movie, that 's kind of a rip-off)

I can't stand will ferrell. Number one reason I stopped watching snl..he was NOT funny.

If he has left, now I can go back to watching it.

Next for will ? Prolly those stoopid lorne michels produced movies.

You actually CAN download the movies without having QuickTime Pro. Just open the page in Internet Explorer, let the movie load (do this per movie, or else it won't work), then leave the page open and go look in '~/Library/Preferences/Explorer/Temporary Files'.

Make sure you have 'Save movies in disk cache' turned on in the QuickTime preference pane (under the 'Connection' tab).

Should work...

Much better as a Apple Switch Spokesperson - or maybe unofficial, but still great - especially making it humorous - I can see Apple doing a spoof of their own switch ads using Ferrell in the year to come.

I hope they do more.

Well, for example, the mpeg 4 ones of will don't actually load in IE for X. They simply come up as a text file. Not a very good read.

I just right click download link to disk and that saves whatever file. But if they're refs, I dunno.

Phil Hartman died a couple years after leaving SNL. He was doing News Radio at the time.

Next? 1998 is next? That's when he did "A Night at the Roxbury" based on an SNL skit.

He also appeared in other SNL-based movies like "SuperStar" and "The Ladies Man."

However, apparently you missed him in movies like "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" and "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me" and "Zoolander" among others.

I watched them both with the links from here, but can't seem to find them by perusing Apple's site. I did a search and all that, but I get nothing, and I'm more or less sure that I'm not completely stupid, so, can anyone help me? I'd love nothing more than to hear that I can't find them through Apple because of my own ignorance.

Santa got his a$$ handed to him. Too funny. Will Ferrel's come a long way, really developed as a comedian now.

Well, there isn't much about apple in them but thats OK. They
aren't even that funny but thats OK. All in all, I think they are
just OK. Now I need a smilie that isn't smiling or frowning. A
Straight faced smilie.

Replying to a few posts....

Celebrity Jeopardy is a riot. I have about 8 of the clips in mpg format a friend snagged off kazaa/Neo and it was great to see them all again.

If you download a quicktime reference movie and pop that open in Textedit or something else textual, you will find an href for the actual Quicktime movie. Failing that, copy from your cache/Temp Internet Files like someone else suggested.

The "ads" are linked to only from Apple's Hot News page, maybe because they don't want them officially considered Switch ads, but Will's page does reside in the /switch/ directory...

Mildly humorous, but our "family friendly" computer company would never air an "ass" or even a "porn star" (which was funnier than either of these).

Ferrell's going to get sued by some mentally challenged ("Retards" to those who can't read PC) for stealing their act. I personally prefer clever to moronic, but hey, that's just me! ;-)

... but these were pretty funny.

Not worthy of airtime, mind you, but it's nice to see some humour on the Apple site.

And, for what it's worth, The videos ran on a Mac _and_ PeeCee WITHOUT QT Pro... Right from the page.... <shrugs>

Uh, yeah. I know that. I just happened to stop watching around the same time period. Sorry, I know I should have been more clear, but It was sort of a rushed post.

I think it just depressed me that I'd never see him on SNL again.

He was good as a host that one time.

I too wonder what got edited out.

I saw the one debuted at MWNY, good as usual. Hope to see more of him soon, maybe as a New Years baby. 2nd thought could be father time, announce that Mac OS 9 will no longer be bootable, seen it time!

Ferrell is funny, no doubt.

iPod Santa is good.

Santa & lawyers starts out great but dies at the end, IMHO.

It would be nice to have Will do a live deal at a conference (or has he done that already?).
