My powerbook 667 locks up on me if i try to change the startup disk in OS 9. The only way i can get back to 10.2 is to put my OSX disk in and use the startup disk utility on the cd which i left at school this week. Fortunately i won't have to boot into 9 after i get my hands on director MX over a month away but until then I have a large project that i need to complete using Directer 8.5 which runs like absolute dog**** in Classic. Anyone know a way i can remedy this problem without the cd? Possibly rebooting with extentions turned off?

booting with the option key held down will give you an early boot version of startup disk.
have you tried replacing your startup disk control panel with the one on the disc? try booting with the extensions off and see if startup disk is the culprit or not.

Tried the option key but since i don't have seperate partitions for 9 and 10 it doesn;t work. unfortunately i don;t have access to the disks at the moment. So i can't try the other
