This week marks the start of freshers week for some Unis, but I know others don't start until later. Some of my friends have now left for their Unis :( , but the term doesn't start until later.
I start tomorrow, at Staffordshire Uni (Stafford Campus)
:)
My girlfriend starts Tuesday at hers.
Unfortunately I'm not living on site, instead living at home (good though in some cases!). Not quite far away enough to justify the cost! (But not hanging around at home forever!!) So I will be driving in most days (45 mins good day, over an hour a bad day!)
Unfortunately my car has decided to go woopsie on me today and is out of action for tomorrow  (1st day!) so a good start to my Uni term!!! :(
I think I'm all set apart from that!
I know a lot of people are moving away, or have done so already. Good luck to you all!!! To everyone who is starting uni!! :D I wish you all the best of luck and fun in your endeavours!
(sorry if this is in another thread, couldn't find any, but I am going blind in my young age!)

hey,
one of my mates starts at staffordshire tomorrow!!!!
sucks about your girlfriend..cest la vie...but as long as you are both committed and keep close contact you will cope fine. long distance relationships can be hard but it does mean you look forward to seeing each other more.
i will be leaving for loughborough university on the 28th, for an 11 day freshers week. looking forward to it, but a little apprehensive too!!
good luck to you and everyone here!!!! all the best!

Cool, Stafford campus?
Good luck at Loughborough! I had a look at that place as an option.
My girlfriend is still living at home too and going to a very near by Uni (about 15 mins drive!) so she is in a better situation than I am, so all is not lost! Things should continue along the same rosey path!
I know what you mean about the apprehensiveness! Feel the same! Good Luck! :D

i think so...he is studying forensic scieence and criminology.
loughborough was my first choice, im really happy with it...no need for a car, im taking my bike!!!
unfortunately it's 5 hours drive and a ferry ride from home!!!
good luck for tomorrow, everyone keeps telling me that the aprehensiveness will go.....break the ice by telling them you're a mac user! :D (or not)

Ahh, takes me back. I graduated from Nottingham last July, (Electrical & Electronic Engineering), so Freshers for me was four years ago now. Still going to Nottingham's this year though. I know many still studying there either younger than me as undergraduates, some moving onto/continuing postgraduate studies, one finishing off his 5 year sandwich course.
One word of advice though, enjoy. Freshers effectively makes or breaks you there. If you enjoy it, have lots of fun, make lots of new friends, you'll be fine. If you hang back and think too much about studies, you'll regret it later. Concentrating on studies comes later in the year or even year 2 onwards, so don't feel guilty about partying too much.
Hope all starting do well and enjoy their days there. :)

Man, you guys start late over there, I have been in school for 3 weeks now.
I am also living at home now while going to university. It is all right, although you do feel a bit cut off from people because you can't just go to the next room over and have friends to hang out with. As long as your parents don't give you a curfew it is a worthwhile money saver. Of course I live a 10 min bike ride off campus, so I can't really talk.

Ye...This is actually quite early compared to other Universities. Some don't start until October time. I bet that 10 min bike ride is nice! Quite close, so I imagine you don't have much of a problem not being on campus! That close I bet your closer than some people who live in off-campus private halls for some Universities!
I'm just a bit shook up about my car not working for tomorrow!! I was all set, and now I'm having to rely on lifts!! I hope it's usable for Tuesday so I can get into the swing of things!!

Ye I think some of my friends don't start till even later in October. Ouch about the mole, I hope they are removed promptly and painlessly for you!
Ye I hope to make full use of the union too. Try and get to know as many people as I can!! My old school is visiting the campus on Tuesday aswell to have some DT Graphics training (which I went on several years ago myself) so will be funny to see them if I get chance!

Make sure you really make an effort to meet as many people as you can in freshers week, as someone else said, it can make or break your uni experience if you don't find the right friends early on. Might be worth while joining some clubs as you aren't living in halls as you will have more chance to mingle with like minded people there.
But other than that..
The first year is great! Not too pressing with work demands and you have all of the excitement of becoming more and more independent, plus you meet loads of cool randomers. :D
Enjoy it - it flys past!
/graduated in July, feeling quite strange to not be going back next week!
//going to do a masters in 06 though so it's not all bad!

Thanks for the advice. I'll do my best! I am looking forward to seeing what clubs etc are on. An old friend told me to be careful in what I join though, and not to join every single club under the sun! hehe! Wonder if there is a Mac usergroup there or an MR group?! hmmm....

I'm willing to bet that you're going to want to move out very soon... most of the great Uni experience is living away from home, going to all-night parties (especially in freshers week)... you might soon find you won't be sober enough to drive :p
well good luck to you and anyone else who's starting... and ENJOY!! :)

I agree with you!! But I don't really fancy moving to Uni accomodation. Yes I'm getting outa here first chance I get, but I wanna do it in my own place. All goes well that maybe right at the end of Uni or something, never know! Can always hope! :D But I know what you mean!! Also I usually go to the parties for the socialising, not the drinking! Someone has to carry their drunk friends home back to their rooms!! :p
Thanks!

I was just as bad when I was a lecturer. ;) I ended up going out with one of my students, although... I waited until she'd finished her course. ;) :p
Otherwise I'm sure there was potential for a conflict of interests when it came to grading her. heheh
That's me... professional to the end. :D
