i had an accident while cooking(deep frying actually) over a year ago. On a different messageboard, somebody had a thread about posting your wounds, so i figured i would post mine.

I have posted it on my own message board though due to the amount of pictures and the graphicness of the pictures.

See them here (http://ribitch.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=233)

i still have scars all throughout my hand. Doctors have told me they will eventually disappear, but it would take some time. They have lightened up and many people who know me say they are not as noticable as before.

When I was about 8 or 9 I had a accident with hot chocolate. I was at the airport with my parents waiting for some relatives to arrive and we went to the airport cafe. I got a hot chocolate and sat down. The table was wobbly and my hot chocholate fell off onto my leg. It left me with second degree burns and I had to go to the hospital. Not fun at all.

pain from a burn is the absolute worst pain to feel. my burns were so bad that it was a constant pain for weeks. They gave me some painkillers but they were never strong enought o make it all go away. it totally sucked

Burns are a serious matter, great risk for infections. Do you have more recent photos? How long did you undergo physical therapy?

oh, those look nasty!!! Ouch.

I broke one of my fingers on my right hand, right at the part where the finger nail joins the skin in 8th grade ( someone stepped on my hand), it exposed the bone, but didn't really hurt till the doctor put it back....:D

My fingernail still doesn't grow correctly there and problably never will - but that's nothing compared to what you went through. Hope it heals nicely. Any recent pics?

interesting that the first date of pics look the "best"... as in, the least red and gruesome... guess it's part of the healing process. but it's odd to see that as the time passed, it looked worse... at least going by those pics.

aaaaayyyyyeeeee.

That looks quite Painful.

My mom had a burn a lot worse then that though. Our dumbass
cook at our business turned around and ran a boiling pot of water into my mom's hands, and then dumped the water all over
her hands and arms

I guess I got lucky when I slipped and stuck my hand in one of the hot deep fryers, luckily there was a vat of shake mix a couple steps away - so I turned and instantly iced my hand.

Hurt like heck for a couple days, and heat brought pain for another week.

But I only ended up with something more like a sunburn, skin died and peeled off.

Sun Baked I'm glad that yours turned out so well, lucky & smart quick treatment applied that prevented further damage.

Yes, its part of granulation, the healing process. Important to prevent infection. Probably used Silvadine cream or another debriding agent dressing. The photos show a nice progression of healing with no infection.

I've been lucky. The most severe burn I've ever gotten burnt off most of the nerves in the area.

No, I slipped with a soldering iron. The thing is designed to melt metal so you can imagine how unpleasant it is when it contacts flesh.

I've worked with one of those, they get pretty darn hot. That would burn, I was always pretty afraid of those things, and I guess for good reason. They come in pretty handy though.

Wow. That's the first time I've ever seen fourth degree burns. I can only imagine how painful that was. The worst damage I ever did was get a massive shard of glass embedded in my thumb. It severed a large vein and blood was pouring out everywhere.

This all happened during one of my organic chemistry labs when one of the previous groups in my section stuffed broken glass into my equipment locker.

jefhatfield,

You were probably too young at the time to enjoy the jokes the doctors would throw about. :D

In my first year of college one of my drunk dorm mates was doing the drunk vaulting over poles around the statium next to the dorm while running -- until he missed. The EMT workers who transported him to the hospital where making the usual jokes to torture the college fools.

"I don't like the looks of that swelling. Looks like he's going to lose at least one of his balls like the motorcycle rider we brought in last week."

To make matters worse, all he had was tight jeans. So every step was extremely painful for a couple weeks.

Priceless freshman college moment. ;)

We did initially. Then we got into this mess involving another mac gaming clan and said that we wouldn't for now. Make a thread in Mac Gaming and see what the other members think of it.

I only have 2 scars, left upper arm small pox vaccination & right hand palm side 1" jagged from a glass cut with just the usual pain at the time and when I moved my hand till it healed. My only real experience is treating patients with injuries! ;)

I broke my little toe on my left foot monday night.

I post a picture of it in the morning if I remember. That's when the bruise looks the worst.

I can also list some of my more painful events of my life if anyone is interested. I have rode dirt bikes most of my life and have always been a curious child so needless to say I have a few scars.

MacBandit how did you break your little toe? Looks like some swelling in you foot, are you trying to keep it elevated as much as possible?

There's just a little swelling in that toe. The foot is fine. I walked full tilt into a coffee table that was out of place. I was barefoot at the time and it caught my little toe and pushed the next toe over in. So the little toe took the brunt of the impact to the inside of it. It didn't make a clean brake. I think it's just seriously cracked it didn't point in any wierd directions.. It didn't swell up huge or bruise severly and the toe still bends the way it should so I haven't been to the hospital.

There is almost nothing you can do for the little toe if you break it. You can tape if, maybe, but it really doesn't have that much to wrap up if you even tried to put a cast on it. Its just going to be painful - damn, that does suck, hope it heals fast.

It actually doesn't hurt unless I bump it. Like I said it wasn't a complete break so I don't need to support it in anyway. I am absolutely sure it is broken for people questioning because I didn't see a doctor and it doesn't hurt. The reason I know is wednesday afternoon 2 days later it was feeling pretty good so I decided to take a close look at it. Well long story short is I pulled on it a little bit and got a shooting pain that continued the rest of the day. The following morning it had swollend and was bruised like the day after the day I did it.

Ouch!!! I agree with your decision not to see your doctor! Sounds like you did tissue damage more than a fracture. The periosteum, the membrane connective tissue covering the bone, if damaged can be very painful. Damage to the tissue is what causes the swelling.

I'm happy to hear that you are doing much better! :)

Information on bone brusing.

http://www.iol.ie/~rcsiorth/journal/volume4/issue2/bone.htm

Definition periosteum

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002280.htm

Information written by a doctor, could transfer information from the finger to the toe.

Hope this research information answers your question, let me know if any additonal questions.

I only wish. I also wish I was the one to take the photo. You can find the photo and order a poster of it here (http://www.allposters.com/gallery.asp?aid=650047&item=333735).

I've been more creative at finding tars recently and realizing I can use almost anything. It just has to look good at an extremely small size. Also I have been collecting and getting ideas on how to change images and make my own tars from my own original work.
