Never heard Revolver. I guess that's going on my Xmas list.

Eleanor Rigby is a good song, it's second on my list to Julia.

Arg....Revlover, Sgt. Pepper, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper, Revolover, Sgt. Pepper..............if I had to chose, I'd probably have to choose Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band [pause for breath] simply because of A Day in the Life. That has to be one of, if not the, best Beatles songs.

Revolver is the best Beatles album. If you listen to Yellow Submarine through And Your Bird Can Sing, it's closest thing an album has ever come to *being* a bright and sunny summer day. That and Pepper, IMO, were the two big Beatles musiclal revolutions.

Sgt. Pepper is second. Rubber Soul (not the American version) and the White Album come in behind those, then Abbey Road, and then Help (God not the American version!) and A Hard Day's Night which are tied.

Magical Mystery Tour has what I think is the best Beatles triple-whammy in Hello, Goodbye / Strawberry Fields Forever / Penny Lane, but it also has some real crap on it and it's not long enough and so it ranks kind of low, down with Let It Be and With the Beatles.

i believe "let it be" was released later but "abbey road' was recorded and mixed later...or all of those songs were all of the same session on both albums and it could have come down to song list choice

Abbey Road and Let It Be were separate sessions... you're right that Abbey Road was recorded last but released second last. The McCartney medley on the second half of Abbey Road was indeed the last the Beatles material ever recorded, and it was recorded during a period when the band members were no longer speaking to each other and it was only McCartney in the studio most of the time. Still, it's a great and fitting end to a great band. :)

too hard to choose one favorite..MMTOUR, Revolver and Rubber Soul are my top three...but that could change tomorrow....

fwiw, a friend of mine shared a house with julian lennon and gave me a dat tape of out-takes and alternate versions that julian shared with him. amazing stuff to hear...false starts, bad solos, paul forgetting lyrics, george martin's comments over the talk/back mic. oh, and some jams that clearly have eric clapton on guitar.

paul and ringo were an outstanding rhythm section.

Its so hard to say! They have done so many good songs! However, it has to be Abbey Road and Sgt. Pepper a close second. Having said that, their No.1 album is a damm good album (all being number 1's and all :) .

The begining of the whole Paul is dead thing. Man, that was genious on John's behalf. To have Paul sing songs that insulted him, and he did not even know it. unreal.

Plus a day in the life is the best beatles song ever!
