First off, very excited about the updated imac, it is truly awesome for the average user.
Im in Denver, parents in Iowa, brothers in MN, and ID. If we all went and bout a new imac, how do we video conference?
Do we have to know static IP addreses, or how do you physically connect to each other. Is it as easy as im thinking it is?
Please explain.
Thank you

You need an iChat account, which you can get for free. Generally if you have an Apple ID, it's the same. Static IPs not necessary.

It would actually be very simple since if you all have new iMac's you'll all be using iChat AV. So you'd simply log in with your AIM name (or sign up for a free one if you don't have one) add your family to your buddy list, and when they come on just click the little video chat button and it will launch a video confrence.

Just don't forget you need decent broadband connection for each person.

100Kbps Internet connection (up/down) is recommended.

an Apple ID won't work. Only a .mac email address can function as an AIM screen name but you can get a free AIM screen name from AIM.com. Also, if you plan on doing a four way iChat you won't be able to with just all iMacs. Some in your family will have to have a dual proc. powermac to initiat that.

I dont think so.........why would apple put out a product that wouldnt allow it to work unless you had a Dual processor Powermac? That does make any sense. Is the above quoted statement absolutely true.

I take back my statement. You are correct. You need at least a dual 1Ghz G4 or any G5. I could have swore it was the way I said but I misread. Thanks for the correction!

That would suck if you have to have a dual G5 to start the 4way. Not that I don't have one hehe, but most people don't.
So I guess my 864kb up 3360kb down connection is good enough eh?

It's dual (1GHz+) G4, or single G5. Obviously a dual G5 would work well.
