Can you believe this!!!?? Well he's gonna be well pis*ed when Santa delivers him F-all on Christmas day for being a total cretin!!
But my favourite sentance from the article has to be
"reindeer would burst into flames if they had to travel at the speeds necessary."
heh heh heh!!!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/2562109.stm
Or full article below!!
It is the news no child wants to hear - and certainly not from the mouth of a vicar.
Youngsters at a Christmas carol service were devastated when the Reverend Lee Rayfield told them Santa Claus was dead.
Even parents at the service in Maidenhead, Berkshire, were shocked to hear Mr Rayfield say it was scientifically impossible for Father Christmas to deliver so many presents so quickly.
Mr Rayfield has admitted making a serious misjudgment in telling the story to children as young as five.
He said: "I did not realise how young some of them were and I am sitting here now wondering how I managed not to realise.
"Even when I was there, I did not twig. I am mortified and appreciate I have put some parents in a difficult position with a lot of explaining to do. I love Christmas."
Mr Rayfield also told the youngsters that reindeer would burst into flames if they had to travel at the speeds necessary.
Mother Sue Smee was at the service with her five-year-old and nine-year-old sons.
'Totally inappropriate'
She said: "Children are not children for very long and it is not his job to tell them things like this.
"It has left us parents with a lot of explaining to do today."
Mother-of-four Sarah McCreery, also from Maidenhead, said: "It would not have taken a genius to look out at the congregation and realise how young the children were.
"It was totally inappropriate."
Mr Rayfield, whose comments came from an internet story on how scientific research could dispel the myth of Santa, is now writing a letter to parents apologising for the blunder.
The incident happened at the packed Saint Piran's School carol service at St Mary's Church in Maidenhead on Monday night.

And there is a difference in saying Santa is dead and saying Santa doesn't exist....
that is a shame, especially for the kids who were hanging on to the beleif, but I imagine that they all might get an extra gift or two just because from their parents.

well if they're magical and fly, what's to prevent them from magically protecting themselves from friction?
That's what I want - frictionless reindeer! :D

A friend of mine that I sent the article wrote back.
If Santa is dead or doesn't exist who's to say God isn't dead or doesn't exist.

yes rather strange that a reverend would describe how it is physically impossible for santa to exist... ahum... what about that go you hold so dear mr reverend.
regardless of whether it is appropriate to tell children the truth, i am just wondering why he felt he needed to discuss santa's existence during a sermon.

if we used christmas for christ, maybe the road rage and mad grab for consumer goods would stop
but for the sake of mad consumerism and the fortune 500, it is good for them that so many youngsters believe in santa claus and the whole gift giving thing
how about realizing the gift that christ gave to the world by being born on this crazy planet?
let the gift giving season be spread out over the year instead of the super high stress time of year which already has back to school in sept, halloween in oct, thanksgiving in nov, the flu, and the superbowl just a month after chirstmas al crammed into its months
this time of year is too busy...i don't see any harm in finally retiring santa claus:p

maybe its just me, but maybe we should stop setting up our kids for disappointments like this by stop lying to them! santa claus does not bring the christmas gifts to your children you do, so take some credit for your hard work, santa is also not the one behind all the needy kids getting presents from toys from tots and similar charities, its the hard working volunteers and the good hearted individuals who donate. I could be wrong though.....
*edit, before I get flamed I think I should explain that I wasnt being very serious here.....that rev. should have handled the situation with more care.

Macbandit, love the tar.
Hmmm, isn't Santa Claus based on St. Nicolaus (or something like that)? He is dead as far as I know, and if he's not, the Catholic Church has done a great job hiding him (at the North Pole maybe?) Maybe that's why the pope wears white... North Pole camo?

i swear to god this happened last year... i remember it quite well, a clergymember telling a group of children that there is no santa, and the parents being very upset... Perhaps the church is starting a new tradition, **** Up A Bunch Of Kids Every Year.

A new tradition???? Sounds like what the Catholic priests have been doing for years...

I thing the new year is the big thing around this time of year, christmas is just a traditional family time of year, the only time me or any of my family ever go near a church is if is someone dies or there's a wedding. Santa on the other hand is something kids shouldn't be told too much about until they start asking questions themselves.
This vicar really is a jerk and shouldn't be allowed to continue at that church anymore, infact he should be forced to do a presentation to the parents for the exact length of the previous rambling that either proves or disproves the existence of everything he stands for. With absolutely concrete evidence absolutely no scientifically minded person could question. That, or shut up and quit ruining it all for the kids.

Ah, but we have to make the distinction between ****ing Up the kids and just ****ing the kids (which is inclusive of the former)... But i do agree :)
And I was indeed correct, this scenario happened almost verbatum last year, which i'm surprised no one else has mentioned... hurt my children once, shame on you, hurt them ... ah, .... Why does anyone actually expose kids to this church?! hehe
