when i import a video into iMovie!!!

When I import a video into iMovie does it usaly play the movie and import it at the same time. cuz that seems kind of slow. is that how it usaly does it? Thanks

Yes, it imports it as it is playing through the camera or recording deck. It also exports the same way. So, if you have an hour of footage, it will take an hour to import it. It is a slow process, but that's just the way video is.
