Will this also apply to older versions of Logic?

Does it fix Compressor? Probably not. I think this is a maintenance update for the dual core PowerMacs. Bleh.

I wonder what it is that this update does....

I really wish they'd provide more details on these conspicuous updates.

"This update improves general user interface reliability for Apple's professional applications."

I certainly hope this fixes the issue of moving the mouse killing playback from the timeline with a dropped frames message . You can't imagine how annoying that has been for the past 6 months

"This update improves general user interface reliability..."

This sounds like a major Microsoft upgrade feature between versions such as MSMoney.

Didn't I say this first on the iTunes update page? :-\

Fix WHAT is compressor, exactly?

Hmm, interesting. Not being a Pro user I won't be downloading this, but nonetheless, it's nice to see Apple addressing some issues, whatever it is they may be... :o

Yes, it fixes several problems in Compressor. Specifically problems when transcoding between HD and SD (field order issues) and improvements in conversion between NTSC and PAL. This is mentioned in the installer and in a tech note on Apple's support website.

Compressor comes bundled with FCP 4 & DVDSP 2, and its used for video and audio compression, I believe.

I run FCP 3 on 10.4 due to lack of money to upgrade. Do I need this update?

I doubt it. If it comes up in software update, I'd download it, but otherwise i wouldn't seek it out.

What the hell is going on? It is like all hell is breaking loose with this company! Does anyone else feel like too much stuff is hitting the fan? I am all for new products but this is overkill. Why wasn't some of this released sooner? There is no way they could have developed all this at once... do they have enough manufacturing facilities to meet demand? All these updates are driving me crazy... at this point OS X 10.5 will be out by Christmas! We will be on Intel by New Years! Somebody stop them PLEASE! I am afraid to buy anything!

I really hope this fixes the Final Cut issues cause Final Cut has a ton of problems with quicktime 7.0.2+ and its just stupid to pay $1300 for Studio and have so much issues from apples own software. There is a plague of problems if you visit the apple support page and look under the FCP section

hmmm FCP crashed on me after update.

Working fine now..... just wished i would of saved

Isn't that like going to a hospital and commenting on how everyone you see seems to be in need of medical attention? ;)

Apple's Pro apps seem so slick and feature full. Just look at Aperture. Wouldn't it be good to see them apply those qualities to the Finder, Mail, Address Book, etc?...

Cheers Daniel

I'd rather have 80% of features with a fast and intuitive UI and use 'pro' like stuff (feature full) when I need them (that's what Apple is about) ...

There is no way they could have developed all this at once...
Yeah they only have one development team... :p

(its not like Apple spends over 500 million dollars a year on research and development)

The products just released have been under development for 9+ months and many much longer then that. Also many of them have been targeted for release in time for the rapidly approaching holiday season.

do they have enough manufacturing facilities to meet demand?
...yes, part constraints are usually the issue they are hit with.

at this point OS X 10.5 will be out by Christmas! We will be on Intel by New Years!

Don't expect 10.5 until late 2006 or more likely 2007. Intel not until 2nd quarter 2006.

Somebody stop them PLEASE! I am afraid to buy anything!
Now is likely the best time to buy stuff... right after release you are basically assured that you will have the current product for the next several months (if you are that worried about it). Personally I buy when I need with an ear/eye out for likely dates of new releases.

I was having a terrible problem with DVD Studio Pro 3 - it crashed any time I added video to it (which made it, of course, useless) this started after the last Quicktime Update.

I installed the Pro update last night and it DSP works completely fine now. So, there is some kind of bug squashing in the update for sure.
