Ive just been looking on www.macgamefiles.com and found several shareware games that look attractive to me. They are:
Planeshift : http://www.planeshift.it
AGON (several episodes) : http://www.agongame.com
Vega Strike : http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/
Nexuiz : http://www.nexuiz.com/
Pillars of Garendall : http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/pog/
Flightgear : http://www.flightgear.org/
I was wondering whether any of you have experience with these games, or any experience with games similar to these. As far as im aware these are all 100% free, so it would solve my problem with money.
Thanks

If they are free why don't you download them and see for yourself?

The actual point of shareware is you download it and use it, if you like it you pay for it, if not you remove it.

http://insidemacgames.com/ regulary reviews shareware games.

Shareware games are definitely fun some suggestions would be Wolfenstein 3D http://www.planetwolfenstein.com/files/files.shtml

and

Battlefield
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/games/demos_updates/battlefield1942.html

I'd highly suggest both. They both are shareware but they are playable online so as long as you don't mind being restricted in Battlefield then they are perfect for what you are looking for. The Wolfenstein is the full online version so it's pretty sweet in that way, if you have any problems getting Wolf to run check out the forums cause i know some mac users were running into problems.

BF1942 is a commercial game, so is Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Maybe you mean the free game Enemy Territory?

Thats the Demo of Battlefield. Not the full game.

Wesnoth (http://www.wesnoth.org/) is completely open source. Not a bad game, if you like that sort of thing.

I'm getting ~180 kb/s. :)

It couldn't be any harder than my all time favorite game X-Com.
