i was just wondering - when macs go intel, will we be able to play windows games using cdega? it's not an emulator so i can't imagine there'd be particularly diminished quality

i imagine Cedega is going to support MacTels. Codeweaver has already said they are going to have support and Cedega would be easy to get working so I expect an announcement from them before too long, if they haven't already.

Unfortunatly, in it's present state, it doesn't work (there are some Linux specific calls that need to be straightened out, mostly in the CD-Protection department), but they'll get it running soon enough

Cdega doesn't seem all that impressive. I haven't seen the list of compatible games, but I remember it being pretty short.
Mac porting houses will probably still be here and probably even be able to work a little faster.
Release a Cdega SDK, and Codeweaver can reap the licensing fees.

Parts of Cedega (http://www.transgaming.com/products_mac.php) are already being used for Mac ports. I'd imagine that Intel CPUs would make it even easier.

have you ever tried configuring wine by hand? and for multiple games that need different settings?

Probably. But Cedega can potentially be a solution for games that don't get ported. And there will be many of them. Plus, it can be used to play older games that will never be ported.

Cedega is developed by Transgaming (http://www.transgaming.com/), not Codeweaver.
And the list of games that work isn't too bad, but most have some quirk or another that certainly makes it less desirable that a true port.

Are you kidding? The list is huge and even has new releases like F.E.A.R., Ultimate Spider-Man, Quake 4, and Battlefield 2.

Well, coming from a linux background, cedega on my previous system was a pain in the ass, be prepared to spend alot of time in config files, and having random crashes throughout games.
That said some games did work nearly flawlessly.
I'll probably just get VPC when I go Intel and when they get a version out.
I just hope my PPC games play alright...
Rosetta emulates a fast G3, and some games require a G4...
Only time will tell.

That won't do you much good...VPC will still not have 3D hardware acceleration. OS X running on x86 does absolutely nothing to remove the technical limitations for that. Still, you could run old 2D games faster if that's what you want.

i use Cedega on my PC and have had no problems other than trying to get games to work that they don't currently support.
