Just a quick question....Do I have to buy Quicktime to convert an .avi movie so I can edit it in iMovie? Thanks.

You have to convert it to a "DV Stream" to work in iMovie.

Quicktime Pro should do it. If you don't have that there probably are other ways... but that's the easiest.

Any cheaper....or free...ways? But I guess $30 for QuickTime Pro is worth it...

There may be free ways... I just don't know how offhand...

The key point is that iMovie takes 'DV Streams' as the video format... so however you can get it into that format... :)

consider that imovie is free.... qt pro is definitely worth it

very very handy.

Paid for it last night....Now I just have to figure out how to use iMovie!

And don't forget to download the plug-in pack (http://a772.g.akamai.net/7/772/51/aeef28721f594e/www.apple.com/imovie/files/iMovie_Plug-in_Pack_2.sit) to get the extra transitions and stuff.
