my vote goes out to the 70s and 80s swedish made volvos
but since ford took over volvo in the 90s, the designs are more rounded and look more average and blend in better with traffic
btw...i have a boxy 1984 volvo station wagon...it looks like a box on wheels;)

Some of these threads are annoying, but I have a spite for this car. I almost put the remaining parts of my lunch on my keyboard when looking for this pic...:D

I really dislike the Pontiac Aztec - especially when it has those plastic armor plates all over the lower half, near the back. It's the suburban assault vehicle we all so desperately need...

Those old Volvos were indeed ugly. Of today's cars it has to be the Pontiac Aztec. It reminds me of the mechanical dragon from Dr. No.

wow... it seems like there are a few aztec haters here... Well, add me to the list. That thing is UUUUGLIEEEEEE
Another car that I don't like is the new hummer... The old hummers looked tough and rugged, and didn't look like they'd break if you hit it with a hammer... They came in 2 color options, camo and black (I think...) The new ones look like an old hummer rear ended a lincon navigator, and had babies...

i just dislike all these new plastic cars coming out.
the chevy pickup that is 1/2 plastic is just a dumb idea. sure it won't rust, but plastic? come on! use an advanced composite or something.

Pontiac Aztec.
As I think about it, all of Pontiac's cars.
I hate the Ford Excursion/Expedition/Navigator and Cadillac Escalade and the H2. They are just disgustingly large. Unnecessary fuel consumption, plus driving my VW golf and being boxed in by four of those while the drivers talk on cell/eat/bitch slap kids in back seat makes me feel like a scenic drive between tanks in desert storm.
I also disliked the AMC Gremlin.

haha W-_-W, in france my friends french family had one of those...
and u guys i like old volvos! i am sooo down with the 240 dl, those are cool! but if u think the pontiac aztek is ugly, look at the buick rendezvous. it may be named after an apple product, but its extremely ugly (its based on the aztek platform, go figure :D)

I'd have to say the Hummer H2 (the 'real' hummer looks ok) and souped up Civics... you can put all the nice rims and stuff on it to make it look like a racing machine, but in the end, it's still a Civic.

Too damn funny
I too cant stand the ASStec, or really any other american made car.
Pontiac needs to really look into fiiring the entire design team.
That Buick thing is freaking ugly too.
And please dont get me started on any tricked out 4 bangers.
please......
they look like fools.
and usually acts like one as well.
But that Avalanche thing.
it takes the cake.
Who wants a plastic gas guzzler, that the window slides out of. o boy ...real genius.

i went to chevys site to see the avalanche. haven't yet. Its ugly. but this proves they really were just beginning with the ugly cars:
I keep looking at it. how ugly. the CHevy SSR. Looks like a VW Beetle mated with a PT Cruiser and drank liquor, smoked cigs and weed and took bad drugs throughout the pregnancy

It look like the but of a fat old black lady with s*** in the middle. I'm not racist but it is a car for black people that like big asses, from the front looks like very gay kind of thing (like every single Lamborghini) but the back is "very explicit". Looks like a rino but.

I think any and all of those stupid modded japanese cars like the hondas everyone is sporting look so silly, I mean not only do most of them look like RC Cars but some even have mufflers that sound like one! And I dont know about you, but most of the people that drive them around here have all the Japanese lettering and etc but they are all white kids, and they dont even know what the lettering says!

when i saw the pt cruiser, it was love at first sight...then when i rode in it, i loved it even more
when i saw a picture of the aztek, i thought it looked hideous, but when i actually saw one, i thought it looked kind of cool...much roomier in person and not cramped looking as in photographs of that car
i used to hate gremlins and pacers, but when i see one in fairly good condition, the retro look and design is really fun
as for hummers, i like the original, but up close, the h2 is much more sleek and sexy...i wonder if the new one costs more
of course, cars like the ford mustang, the porsche 911, and the italian sportscars are the prettiest things on the road

Why does this *Citroen* have Japanense on it and say electric? The Japanese have way better cars than this! For example...

I have a big soft spot for the VW Bug, it has a great look, now a classic. Its the 1st car that I drove. For the money its the best fitting car for me height wise, I'm 6' 8" tall. Its amazing how well I fit in that car, plenty of head room.

What's with the import bashing? I'm as against all the little ricerboys with their bone stock Civics with 6" mufflers and big wings, but there are plenty of real imports that can put alot of cars with 2 or 3 times the displacement to shame! So much for thinking different, huh?

There have been alot of really ugly cars, but I have to chime in for some truly ugly beasts:
1971 MBZ 280C
mid '80s Cadillac Seville (the one with the trunk problem)
Toyotas Echo & Prius
Zimmers (all kit cars really)
Volkswagen [Rabbit] Cabriolet (basket handle)
Datsun/Nissan 300Z (the first one, which looked like a bloated version of the excellent 240Z)
Aztec, and all the similar Sport Ugly Guzzlers
The '80s Camaro/Firebird (K.I.T.T.)
The Trabant
Many more whose names I have purged from my memory forever....

I think the Cadillac Escelade, and the GMC Avalanche are pretty ugly. I know a guy who has an Avalanche, and he loves it because it is so functional for his line of work.
As for Gremlins, they are almost as ugly as Pacers, although I saw one once with dual quads sticking out of the hood; looked pretty cool too.
As for the Aztek, I love those things. I hope someday I will be able to afford one.

I have to stand up for late 80's volvo 240 dl wagons. I have had one for 3 years. paid $2000 for it and only have had to put $40 (for a muffler I installed myself) into it in that time.
It gets 28 mpg on the highway. It has more cargo space than a Ford Explorer (or nearly as much). You can fit a piece of 4 x 8 plywood in the back. It has heated front seats and is supposedly good in crashes. It's reliable though a bit expensive if you need parts. It's common for the engine to go 300,000 miles.
It is also the vehicle of choice for artists in Philadelphia and New York.
The only problem is the lack of cup holders. and I agree with what everyone said about the Aztec but what Ford did the the exterior of the Jaguar has got to be the biggest crime. (though the mechanics of the late 80's Jaguars may have been an even bigger crime)

The Cadillac CTS is the ugliest of the new line of Caddy's, but I have to say that the Pontiac Aztec almost made me barf when I saw it, it seems like they couldn't decide what shape to make it when they were designing it.
About the CTS...I cannot believe their website...as you can see my OS 9 pointer is focused on the CTS, and it says "What a breath of fresh air looks like"... it looks like my CD burner...

Ahhhh yes, the Volks-Porsche.
As a 356 & 911 owner, I often forget about the 92*, 944, 968 the 914, etc. The 356, 911 (nee 901), 912, and 959 (which I consider the true Porsches) are virtually devoid of straight lines, and have always been some of the curviest cars available. Thus I had to laugh at the original poster!
I have only recently admitted that I like the Boxster S (a lot)...I have a few outstanding DMV problems I need to address before I can even think about one of those.

I agree the Aztec is ugly, but most SUV's are attractive. I have a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer and I think one of the better looking SUV's ever made. I can see you are an SUV basher, but until you own one you don't know what you are missing. I can throw up the third row seat and take 7 people if I want, or I can fold all the seats down and haul a lot of cargo. The V6 engine gets pretty decent MPG and the All Wheel Drive is excellent when you have to drive on snow and ice. I came home from the holidays last night and hit a road with snow on top of ice and I was happy to have such good traction.
I think the funniest thing is when I get approached by an SUV basher and they are driving a '78 Caprice. That thing is dumping more waste into the atomphere then 20 new SUV's. Heck even an old 60-70's VW pollutes way more then any modern SUV...WAY more. Don't get me wrong, I think the old Beetles are cool little cars, I am just making a point.
