View Full Version : LCD backlight dying?!

For the past day or three now, my iBook's (500MHz) LCD backlight has been blinking on and off at random times. I don't know if this means it's dying, or has a pinched circuit or something, but it's almost certainly a hardware problem; it happens in both X and 9. How, then, do I find out for sure what's causing it, and how to fix it, if there's a way besides calling Apple? And does anyone know if the one-year warrantee covers this? Any help would be very appreciated.

If it's a hardware problem, then the one year warranty will cover it. It sounds like the inverter board has a problem or as you suspect, the monitor cable is not connected tightly. If you are indeed still under warranty, I would take it to an Apple Tech.

Thanks. I'm going to either an Apple Store or a dedicated computer repair place on Thursday, to get a part for my Mom's G4... I'll take the iBook with me. The length of time it stays off for is increasing, though, so I hope it lasts till then. :(
