I've been following this thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=206307) over at the AVS Forum for a few days now.
In early December I placed a thread titled “HTPC pre-built on request – Rip Off” where I described my misfortunes when requesting a forum’s member to assist me in purchasing parts, assembling and setting up an HTPC for an agreed fee. I sent him a check in the dollar amount covering the purchase of hardware + software, and the mentioned service fee in June , but 7 months later, I have received nothing yet.
The unit was supposed to be shipped to Miami, and my courier would ship it from there to South America.
Last time I heard from him was in October, and since then I have tried to contact him via e-mail, and overseas phone-calls without luck.
In response to the former thread a few people kindly offered their help to try to contact this person, so I could get either the HW + SW parts or the money back.
This has proved unsuccessful also.
As a last resort, I am humbly asking some of you people who might happen to live in the State of Illinois (Lake County) to help me in contacting that person and figuring out a way to get my HTPC or my money back. I have thought about flying up to his town but the cost is prohibitive to me.
I’m really frustrated, annoyed, and with some of my hard earned money less off my pocket.:(
If some of you might find it feasible to help me out, please send me a PM, and I’ll get back to you with the pertinent information of the person involved in this unfinished deal.
I truly appreciate your help!!

The man that Jose sent the money to happens to be a well-respected moderator of those forums and has been missing for the past couple weeks.
