i have an almost new combo drive out of a 1.2GHZ iBook that was used only to wipe the drive after the original buyer, could not figure out how to switch from Windoze. Yours for 45 bucks. PERFECT.
I also have a new UJ 845 Superdrive that I would sell you for 159 shipped.

is this the same part used on the powerbooks though?? is it apple branded per say? I have to try one more thing before i say for sure its "dead" and im taking it to the apple store tomorrow maybe they can fiddle with it before i give a go ahead to a deal. I read on apples discussion site about people literally forcing the gears back into place....gonna have a friend at the apple store try it for me.

of course it's apple and yes it works with Powerbooks and iBooks alike. The only thing it would not work with is a G3 iBook or a lower than 550mhz Titanium Powerbook G4.

Here's some that I found. Although the 2X is cheapest, that's a bit slow. I would go with a 4X.
