This is true (please correct me if I am wrong):
The CG effects in LOTR: The Two Towers were done in a small town in New Zealand (where it was filmed), so as anybody who has seen the film or read about knows, a huge portion of the film had computer generated orcs (and smeagol as well as the other cool effects and characters). When the people turned on their computers to begin the effects the drain was so great that the entire town lost power. I thought about posting this when I read that CG animators don't use macs for the final stage of production because they dont have enough power. In this case the town didn't have enough power for the hungry P4s (or whatever they were using).
