Really looking forward to it. Thanks for the web and IRC coverage.

I normally listen to a few tracks of Spice Girls before I fall asleep, but I haven't been able to sleep last night because of all the buzz. :o

Looks like I'll stay awake at least until the afternoon. :cool:

I'll be on a damn train... Let's see if WAP works though lol

EDIT: I've got a mobile phone which uses GPRS, so is there any way I'll be able to read an irc or macrumors through it? The train sadly won't have WiFi, so what do I do?

Sure. There are a few "events" that are general PC events like last weeks CES. If you are talking about events that get PC users in a flip about their computer OEM of choice. No because most PC users don't give a flip. And aren't desperate like Mac users are. There is also the fact that there are very few secrets in the PC world. Most companies don’t play the whole Apple cloak and dagger crap.

Around a half an hour or so the front page. www.macrumors.com will go to a low bandwidth page. Every? I think 5 minutes the thing will auto update. You DO NOT need to refresh.

1 hour, 46 minutes until the Macworld Keynote.

And I just got booked for a meeting at the same time - don't these people know I have priorities - I'm thinking new product Tuesdays should be treated like religious holidays, errr at least we should get sparklers or something.

The forum is locked for that time. Don't want to crash MR's do you? :D :eek: More accurately you don't want to crash the forums since they are on a sep server. Expect the load on the forums to start hitting it soon. Timeouts may be in order very soon. :( We'll see how good Arn's new hardware is, :D

If you have a fairly recent phone you should be able to download the Java based Opera Mini, this allows you to view traditional web pages on a WAP phone.

You then need to point your wap browser on your mobile to http://mini.opera.com. This will then download the Java based app to your phone. I've tried it on my Motorola PEBL and it works pretty well.

You can find out more info at http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/operamini/

Hope this helps.

Uh, if your girlfriend expects you to actually celebrate a monthly anniversary (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=anniversary) then it may be time to ditch her. That's some seriously high maintenance.

As a side note, if you, as the male, are trying to celebrate it, you might just drive her away with that insanity.

How do you figure it's unnecessary?

I personally hate AJAX. the AX is completely unnecessary. I prefer JSON with Asynchronous Javascript HTTP Requests.

XML Version:

<reply>
<user_id>200</user_id>
<subject>Some subject</subject>
</reply>

JSON:

{"reply" : {"user_id" : 200, "subject" : "Some subject"}}

As you can see, it's far lighter but still allows for all of the functionality. Plus, it is faster and easier for javascript to parse.

My predictions for Macworld, 2006. (http://maniacalrage.net/past/2006/1/10/my_predictions_for_macworld_2006/)

I believe yours is the most likely I've read so far. ;)

My prediction:
- no new hardware. 6 months early with Intel - c'mon people? When has Apple ever been early with hardware?
- Keynote will be about iLife '06, more iTMS TV/Movie stuff, and a few demos of Intel apps
- everyone here will be up in arms claiming that Apple promised them iBooks and MMMCs (Mac Mini Media Centres)

A boring prediction, yes. I hope I'm wrong.

Maybe that is the big announcement this year... that next year MWSF will be a webcast:oIt's asking too much of Apple to be as cool as Microsoft showing the CES keynote as a live webcast, and actually do the same for the MWSF. Everything Apple does is so secretive, even while they're showing it to the public. Pisses me off.

AppleInsider have a story on ( http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1448 ) intel iMacs and MacBook Pros.

What is the point of iMacs - they've just been refreshed, and plenty fast enough, why would Apple need to make iMac Intels so quickly. iBooks and PowerBooks are in need of a desperate upgrade.

Actually, PowerBook pre-dates the PowerPC by almost 5 years. The PowerBook 100 came out in '91 with a 16Mhz 68000 chip - the first PowerPC PowerBook was tin '96
See: http://everymac.com/systems/apple/powerbook/stats/mac_powerbook100.html

Final Cut Extreme wouldn't be shown until at least NAB. I doubt it'll make an appearance here. All the same, it looks like it's going to be great AND the forum software is holding up quite well..

Yup - I think it's kind of odd how Apple brought out this FM adapter after pretty much killing the format with Podcasting.

Many health clubs have TVs up on the wall with a bunch of channels going at once. You can tune into a specific channel via FM tuner. Given the popularity of iPods while working out, especially the flash-based ones, this is definitely a useful accessory...a bit late, but useful.

Photocasting limited to .Mac members. OK, now if they only reduce the price to 1/2 or 1/3 then I might bite. Sounds like trying to add value to .Mac. Argh.
