OS X equivalent of this Windows software?

Most of the apps I need (Photoshop, Quicken, Turbotax, Office, etc) are available for OS X, and many that aren't (Musicmatch, IrFanView, etc) have equivalents (itunes, i -etc), but there are a few that I use that I have been unable to locate a replacement for.

DriveCrypt (http://www.drivecrypt.com/drivecrypt.html)

CyberScrub (http://www.cyberscrub.com/)

P2P (WinMX, Kazaa, etc)


Any recommendations on replacements for these?

Have you tried searching www.versiontracker.com to see if you can find equivalents for the programs you're looking for?

There's iShare for WinMX... it's just not in English, and iSwipe for Kazaa (as well as all the other networks). THe best one for Gnutella is Limewire though.

As for DriveCrypt, Apple had(has?) an encryption tool, not 1344 bit, but 128 bit certainly.

Can't tell you anything about CyberScrub. Your link just points back to DriveCrypt.

Oops...fixed the link. It's basically a DOD-level erasing program.

Version tracker looks a little daunting. I'll have to sit down with that this weekend and go through that.

Another question....

Does Quicktime handle Windows Media files? I assume that Quicktime is the built-in media player for OS X...does it handle most media types (obviously .mov, but also .mpg, .avi, .wav, ,mp3, .wma/.wmv, etc?)

If not, is there a plugin for Quicktime, or is there another media player that you recommend?

Quicktime doesnt handle .Wmv's If you want to use them, Microsoft makes WMP for mac.

As an additional media player to Quicktime I reccomend using VideoLan client: http://www.videolan.org/
Alternatively you can install windows media player for the proprietary microsoft video formats lile .wmv, .wma etc.

As far as a secure erasing app is concerned, I used to use Norton Wipe Info in os9, don't know if Norton for osX has Wipe Info too...

Data encryption: I think FWB's HardDisk Toolkit did support setting up encrypted drives in os9, but again, I don't know if it will work in osX too.

I'm not aware of any disk encryption tools that go beyond the 128-bit AES built into Disk Copy. An alternative to stronger encryption would be to stop downloading child porn.

Best equivalent for Kazaa is Kazaa under Virtual Pc. Works fine. Starts up a little bit slow but it works as good as on a pc

I couldn't find any equivalant, but you might try looking at www.versiontracker.com or www.macupdate.com for some software. If not, Sherlock for OS X has built in maps ( requires internet connection).

Hmmmm....so apparently there are no decent map programs for OS X. Looks like that's the only program I use that I haven't been able to find a replacement for.
