Hello, y'allz.
I am seriously considering purchasing a 15 or 17 inch Apple-brand LCD flatscreen that is compatible with my 12" PowerBook Rev. E. If you have such an item, please don't hesitate to contact me, as I am quite interested in finding one.
Must be in like new condition or new.

did they ever make a 15" LCD? The 17" was produced for several years, but was ditched when they made the switch to the alum displays.

The 15" and 17" Apple displays have the ADC connector. You'll need to invest in a DVI - ADC adapter in order to use them with your PowerBook. Just an FYI.:)

Yes, I do believe they made them in 15" - they are on eBay. Um, is that the adapter that came with my computer, or is it different? Thanks for the info.

it is definitely different, i believe that is a mini dvi to DVI. an ADC adapter costs roughly 90-110US depending if it has the usb and power with it. so yea, i wouldn't get an apple one, the 15" ones aren't that great and are overpriced because there apple, go for a nice 17" samsung or dell or something...

Say I wanted to spend somewhere in the ballpark of 150 bucks, give or take some - what could I find from a decent manufacturer NEW that doesn't need an adapter to work with my pbook? I don't care that much about size... 15, 17, 19... it's all moot. I just want a second screen to separate my IM's from my browsing.

No, the adapters included with your PowerBook convert the mini-DVI port into a standard DVI port or VGA port. Since those Apple displays use the ADC connector (which was a proprietary connector used for a short while, it has since been abandoned), you'll need to get an additional adapter, such as this (http://www.drbott.com/prod/db.lasso?code=0111-DVAD) one.

you can find 15" LCD displays at places like bestbuy for that much, that would be roughly 200$ Canadian (150US) so yea, go for another manufacture unless you want to add at least 100US for the adapter!

Thanks for the information. I'll keep that in mind when making a purchase.

Just to give you an idea of how much they cost, I just bought a 17" Apple Studio Display a few days ago in pretty much mint condition with the original box for $275 shipped.
I definitely recommend it. It's a GREAT display.
